WILL HOFBAUER – ROLLING IN THE OOZE

Posted on 2025-04-28

Will Hofbauer returns to Aus Music with four colourful tracks of house, dub and broken beats.
The London-based artist previously debuted on the label with Four! Beats! in 2024
Will Hofbauer has always made music with a playful sensibility. From deep house to techno to club, it always comes with leftfield samples and an intriguing personality. His grooves are lithe, and his production styles pops and fizzes on labels like Wisdom Teeth, Optimo Music, and his own Third Place, and his return to Aus is again filled with studio trickery and dance floor delights.

Opener ‘Silica Gel’ is a dubby house cut with smeared pads bringing dashes of warmth. Shakers, hooky synth wiggles, and off-grid hits pepper the groove to keep things moving while sci-fi motifs bring a futuristic twist. ‘Rolling in the Ooze’ picks up the pace with well-swung drums and grittier textures while bright leads dazzle and a sombre bassline adds depth. The brilliant ‘Squito’ has an authentic dub touch and is marbled with watery ripples and tiny sonic droplets. It’s a fluid, elastic sound full of musical curiosities. Closer ‘Ghoti’ is a stumbling broken beat with meticulous drums and hi-hats over a stepping bassline. Bursts of shimmering synths and tumbling melodic scales light it up with a psychedelic twist.

ROBERT LEBLANC – TIN LIZARDS X CARHARTT WIP

Posted on 2025-04-28

Tin Lizards celebrates the timeless romance of train travel. Immersed in a monochromatic dreamscape of surrealism. In this evocative world crafted by Robert LeBlanc, reality blurs with fiction, as memories crystallize in silver halides, transforming the world into a canvas of wonder and introspection. From the quiet solitude of a sleeper car to the whispered charm of small towns, LeBlanc’s lens captures the poetry of diverse landscapes, revealing beauty in life’s quietest moments.

Each destination in this collection was reached by train. Propelled by the rhythmic hum of steel on tracks, LeBlanc distills the spirit of exploration, crafting a series of photographs that dance between stillness and motion. His work invites viewers on a soulful journey, where the heart of America’s quieter corners unfurls through the gentle cadence of the train.

LeBlanc partnered with Carhartt WIP and fine-art publisher Nazraeli Press to unveil the Tin Lizards monograph. Accompanying this is a limited-edition capsule collection exclusive to Carhartt WIP Los Angeles.

KOUROS MAGHSOUDI’S HUG CHAIR

Posted on 2025-04-28

Designer Kouros Maghsoudi has unveiled the Hug Chair, the latest addition to his Hug series, at NYCXDesign 2025. Known for his bold and unconventional approach to furniture design, Maghsoudi emphasizes its sculptural form and inviting presence with a low-lying silhouette, paired with thin metal legs. The legs serve the purpose of supporting the flat cushion seat, enclosed by bulbous, cylindrical arms upholstered in Italian leather.

The Hug Chair continues Maghsoudi’s exploration of hedonism in design, following previous releases such as the Hug Bed and Hug Tray. While the Hug Bed was explicitly crafted for multiple seating and reclining positions, the Hug Chair offers a more versatile experience, allowing users to interact with it in various ways. The chair’s internal framing system, made from FSC-certified wood, ensures durability while maintaining a sleek, modern aesthetic. Its curved arms and low, grounded form subtly nod to intimacy without feeling overly delicate, reinforcing its bold yet approachable design.

NATHALIE KHAYAT – UNFOLDED PROXIMITIES

Posted on 2025-04-28

Khayat harnesses the material properties of clay to examine the poetic tensions between structure and fluidity, containment and release, and fragility and endurance in objects infused with reminders of human ritual. Through an intuitive dialogue with clay, Khayat constructs sculptural forms that oscillate between architectural precision and organic vulnerability. With Unfolded Proximities, Khayat unleashes the sculptural potential of her material, marking a significant shift in her practice. While the artist’s work has long occupied a liminal space between function and form, Khayat’s newest body of work embraces—and prioritizes—clay’s capacity for emotional resonance over use.

ROMAN FLÜGEL – GEHT’S NOCH? (21 YEAR ANNIVERSARY)

Posted on 2025-04-21

A noughties classic, an earworming anthem, an eventual schoolyard ringtone favourite; Roman Flügel’s once inescapable ‘Geht’s Noch?’ celebrates turning 21 on Running Back, refreshed and remixed by a scene-spanning set of artists paying keen tribute to its absurdist energy.

Casually released as part of a Cocoon Records compilation in 2004, ‘Geht’s Noch?’ rose from the depths with the support of Sven Väth, becoming an international phenomenon, conquering and uniting the dominant scenes of minimal and electroclash alike. Some have said it laid the foundations for the ‘Dirty Dutch’ house scene, albeit from over the border in Germany.
