HITECH – DROP THE LOC

Posted on 2025-02-24

Detroit partystarters HiTech caps off their biggest year yet with a mixtape of new tracks that brings together all the roots of their rambunctious sound. Motor city machine funk is the obvious engine powering the function, but the group drops plenty of Chicago in the mix too alongside the punkier end of rap. Having been around the world and back on tour, HiTech goes global here too, bringing in guests like UK singer George Riley for a new look with the stuttering mid tempo thump of ‘TAKE YO PANTIES OFF’. That said, HiTech is at their best when they trash talk at warp speed like on the deliriously fun ‘SHADOWREALM’.

.CATACLYSM. THE 1972 DIANE ARBUS RETROSPECTIVE REVISITED

Posted on 2025-02-24

David Zwirner and Fraenkel Gallery are pleased to announce Cataclysm: The 1972 Diane Arbus Retrospective Revisited, on view at David Zwirner’s 606 N Western Avenue location in Los Angeles. Organized by both galleries, the exhibition debuted at David Zwirner New York in September 2022 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the artist’s momentous 1972 posthumous retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art, New York. Cataclysm re-creates that iconic exhibition’s checklist of 113 photographs, underscoring the subversive poignancy of Arbus’s work even today while highlighting the popular and critical upheaval the original exhibition precipitated. This will be the first major survey of the artist’s work in Los Angeles since Diane Arbus: Revelations, which was presented at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art over twenty years ago.

Exhibition runs through to June 21st, 2025

YAN PEI-MING – WANTED

Posted on 2025-02-24

This new body of work by Franco-Chinese artist Yan Pei-Ming is about the dynamics of desire. The small portrait presented in the gallery’s first room is the starting point of the exhibition: it is painted after Lucien Freud’s 1952 portrait of fellow artist and friend Francis Bacon, which was stolen in Berlin in 1988 never to be found – at least to this day. Portraiture is the cornerstone of Yan Pei-Ming’s practice. Best known for his epic, large-scale monochromatic renditions of iconic figures, ranging from popes to emperors and world leaders, he explores the representation of the human spirit
through the medium of portraiture.
