CARTIER – MAGNITUDE – PUBLIC EXHIBITION

Posted on 2019-06-27

Discover the latest creations inspired by the collision of materials, a theme dear to Cartier’s legacy.
Magnitude is a new illustration of Cartier’s ability to constantly reinvent itself while maintaining the permanence of its style. The collection highlights the long standing history of Cartier to use unexpected materials and to create pieces that showcase the use of transparency and openwork.

In Magnitude, Cartier brings together with bold and creative panache materials that were never meant to meet. Sapphire shines alongside matrix opal; emerald gleams next to rock crystal, and pink diamond is juxtaposed with morganite and coral.

Ever since it was established, Cartier has been a prestigious name in High Jewellery. The Maison’s history began with a brilliant jeweller, Louis-Francois Cartier, who in 1847 took over his employer’s business and opened a boutique in his own name. There flocked the Parisian High Society. Louis Cartier, Louis-Francois’ great grandson was the force behind Cartier’s international expansion and the opening of the boutique in London and New York, respectively headed by his brothers Jacques and Pierre. In two generations, the Maison had become one of the most respected jewellers and watchmakers. Jacques is ultimately credited with making Cartier London what it is today. The Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VII, even hailed Cartier as “the jeweller of kings, and the king of jewellers”.
To complement the newest Magnitude collection, over 600 magnificent High Jewellery pieces that tell the story of Cartier’s history and style will also be on display.

Open to the public on June 29th and 30th from 10:00am to 07:00pm (last entry at 6:00pm) with tours running every 30 minutes.

BUJU BANTON FOR SUPREME

Posted on 2019-06-25

Regarded as one of the most significant artists in Jamaican music, Buju Banton was born Mark Anthony Myrie in Kingston, Jamaica and rose to prominence in 1992. With his hard-edged albums Stamina Daddy and Mr. Mention, Banton cemented his musical career in the dancehall arena. He would later go on to break the record for #1 singles in Jamaica, previously held by Bob Marley.

By the mid-90s, Banton’s music became influenced by the Rastafari faith, which shaped his subsequent releases, including 1995’s ’Til Shiloh. Widely regarded as Banton’s turning point and opus, ’Til Shiloh blends conscious lyricism with African instrumentation and a blend of dancehall beats. Banton’s return to Jamaica in 2018 was considered a homecoming. His Long Walk to Freedom concert, staged in March 2019, drew over 35,000 people to a sold-out National Stadium in Kingston.

This spring, Supreme has worked with Buju Banton on two t-shirts.

Available in-store NY, Brooklyn, LA, London, Paris and online June 27th.

Available in Japan on June 29th.

GILA – TRENCH TONES

Posted on 2019-06-24

GILA is an electronic producer from Denver, Colorado. ‘Trench Tones’ contains four diverse tracks that showcase his signature, hard-edged production style. His debut album will follow later in the year.

Born Kyle Reid, he was a talented jazz drummer and percussionist until a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis forced him to give up his sticks at age 17. Turning to his laptop, he channelled his frustrated musicality into beat making.

GILA, (pronounced hee-la) is named for the gila monster, the only venomous lizard native to the United States. Often slow, full of texture, and deadly, the gila monster possesses many of the same qualities in GILA’s music.

NAIL – REVELATION

Posted on 2019-06-24

Polish-Silesian producer Karol Gwóźdź aka Nail joins the German label Dominance Electricity for a mystic ‘Revelation’. The title track is an epic ten-minute Electro trip with biblical vocoderized lyrics in Polish language, driving broken beats and hypnotic melody loops. Followed by the slightly more energetic ‘1987’, the release also features two ambient bonus pieces that highlight the beautiful synth work of the two songs. Essential for fans of classic Electro in the vein of Kraftwerk or Anthony Rother. ‘Revelation / 1987’ is now available in digital formats and as a limited edition 12-inch vinyl.
