CARTIER – MAGNITUDE – PUBLIC EXHIBITION
2019-06-27Discover the latest creations inspired by the collision of materials, a theme dear to Cartier’s legacy.
Magnitude is a new illustration of Cartier’s ability to constantly reinvent itself while maintaining the permanence of its style. The collection highlights the long standing history of Cartier to use unexpected materials and to create pieces that showcase the use of transparency and openwork.
In Magnitude, Cartier brings together with bold and creative panache materials that were never meant to meet. Sapphire shines alongside matrix opal; emerald gleams next to rock crystal, and pink diamond is juxtaposed with morganite and coral.
Ever since it was established, Cartier has been a prestigious name in High Jewellery. The Maison’s history began with a brilliant jeweller, Louis-Francois Cartier, who in 1847 took over his employer’s business and opened a boutique in his own name. There flocked the Parisian High Society. Louis Cartier, Louis-Francois’ great grandson was the force behind Cartier’s international expansion and the opening of the boutique in London and New York, respectively headed by his brothers Jacques and Pierre. In two generations, the Maison had become one of the most respected jewellers and watchmakers. Jacques is ultimately credited with making Cartier London what it is today. The Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VII, even hailed Cartier as “the jeweller of kings, and the king of jewellers”.
To complement the newest Magnitude collection, over 600 magnificent High Jewellery pieces that tell the story of Cartier’s history and style will also be on display.
Open to the public on June 29th and 30th from 10:00am to 07:00pm (last entry at 6:00pm) with tours running every 30 minutes.
