BATTLE ROYALE X FILMARKS

Posted on 2024-11-25

Filmarks is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Battle Royale with a collaborative collection and a re-release of Kinji Fukasaku’s iconic movie.

The capsule is comprised of three T-shirts that pay homage to the Japanese dystopian action film. All three arrive in a stark black backdrop with the Battle Royale logo either on the chest or on the upper back. The first piece is designed with the words “BR Law” that the class teacher, Kitano, wrote on the blackboard, followed by the scythe that Mitsuko uses during her time alive and, finally, a more simple Battle Royale offering with a print of the film’s prologue.

Galerie frank elbaz is pleased to present the first exhibition of Sopho Kobidze and Elené Shatberashvili, a visual dialogue that reflects their friendship and creative exchange. The exhibition, which oscillates between abstraction and figuration, explores a unique space referred in the title Oblique, a space that defies conventional definitions. Neither perpendicular nor parallel to the horizon, it serves as a meeting point for their artistic worlds, a path that invites free and unrestrained reflection. Through this, they open a singular path for visitors to enter a realm where dreams and reality come together.

BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD – ‘BESTIES’

Posted on 2024-11-25

Black Country, New Road are back on Ninja Tune for their third LP entitled Forever Howlong. Their first release since the sudden departure of frontman/ringleader Isaac Wood, the Cambridge six-piece soldiers on admirably, matching the kitchen-sink baroque onslaught of their prior efforts with a more streamlined, but no less-affecting blend of the ornate and the intimate. With vocals now split between Tyler Hyde, Georgia Ellery (also of Jockstrap), and May Kershaw, the group seems to rally around each one’s vocal quirks, making for a record-as-survey that winds up far more cohesive and surprisingly tender than expected.
