ARGHAVAN KHOSRAVI – TRUTH BE TOLD

Posted on 2021-12-27

Most of the female figures that are depicted in Khosravi’s works are prevented from moving freely. They often seem trapped in a nightmare in which they are unable to run away: their legs are stuck in the concrete floor or deep holes; their wrists and arms are tied; their voice suffocates under water or in a bucket covering their head. One woman disappears behind drawn curtains, others seem to have burnt their fingers on something they were not allowed to touch.

At the core of the exhibition is THE BATTLE, a work that Khosravi built from several massive wooden panels, and which is the most complex work within the group. Its triptych composition is reminiscent of a medieval altar piece. This quality is combined with imagery based on Persian miniature painting: a battle scene moving from the outer right and left edges of the largest, horizontal panel to the center. The central, vertical panel shows the body of a woman, who is wearing an elegant blouse.

CHILDREN OF THE DISCORDANCE FW22

Posted on 2021-12-27

For its Fall/Winter 2022 collection, Children of the Discordance continues its exploration of Japanese youth investigating the world of BMX. Titled “Reason,” the seasonal range is once again defined by eclectic vintage flair which comes through a mix of upcycled textiles and familiar silhouettes.

Aside from its usual patchwork bandana constructions, Children of the Discordance’s FW22 collection features a variety of patterns, striking graphic flourishes, badge placements, and chunky mohair knits. Continuing the retro focus is a series of styles that utilize cut-up vintage T-shirts, refashioned into long-sleeve tees, shorts and more. A relaxed stance is expressed throughout the collection, most notably found in the selection of outerwear that references a variety of classic jacket and coat types.

L’RAIN – FATIGUE

Posted on 2021-12-27

After further adventures in NYC’s burgeoning multidisciplinary art scene, L’Rain aka Taja Cheek returns as a fully-formed art-pop experimentalist with her second album. While 2021’s Fatigue emerges in the midst of a wearying pandemic, it also soundtracks the murmurations of competing ideological forces — some good, and some evil — with a plethora of neo-soul, sign-of-the-times abstractions, translating overwhelming societal anxiety into a rallying cry for change.
