VANS X JUSTIN HENRY

Posted on 2020-06-29

The shoes are built fully from white pebbled leather, uppers present an undeniably crisp tonal look. Signature embellishment arrives on the white laces, which offer a repeating “WORLD PEACE” print, done up in bold and blocky black letters. Rugged overlays spread across the toe cap, providing durability for all-day skate sessions. Tonal Vans tags sit under the white Jazz stripe, with a signature red rubberized badge gracing the white rubber midsole. To finalize the look, outsoles enlarge and split the “WORLD PEACE” print from the laces, with one word appearing on each shoe.

The shoes are also accompanied by a special tote bag with a jacquard cherub print, inspired by a vintage sewing bag gifted to Henry by his aunt.

SUSAN MEISELAS – THROUGH A WOMAN’S LENS

Posted on 2020-06-29

American photographer Susan Meiselas seeks to bear witness to stories that might otherwise go unnoticed. She has traveled from rural county fairs to conflict-ridden Central America, working closely and over long periods with her subjects, focusing her lens on what she thinks the public needs to see. A member of the international photographic cooperative Magnum Photos since 1976, Meiselas creates photographs that raise provocative questions about the documentary practice and the relationship between photographer and subject.

OLYMPIA

A sublimely intimate, fly-on-the wall verité documentary tells a heart-wrenching story of a woman becoming her own woman, on her own terms to assert a gigantic creative force into the world. Rebelling against her old world panty-sniffing suspicious Greek mother to assert her strong sexual drive, fighting the feeling she was “too ethnic” amid the Boston Brahmin at BU, and starting her own theatre company in New Jersey instead of waiting for the phone to ring, Olympia Dukakis models how to live life with blazing courage.

TEMPORAL – PUERTO RICAN RESISTANCE

Posted on 2020-06-29

Temporal: Puerto Rican Resistance explores Puerto Rico’s contemporary history as a United States colony. The exhibition traces the continued impact of three recent major events: the enactment of the US federal law titled the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA) in 2016, the US response to Hurricane María’s landfall on the island in 2017, and the mass protests in July 2019 that forced the governor’s resignation.

Temporal takes its name from a Puerto Rican plena song, which roughly translates to “storm.” Plena, a style of music with Afro-Caribbean origins dating back to the early 1900s, has been referred to as the “sung newspaper” of the people and often incorporated into protests chants on the island. The exhibition follows in the storytelling style of this traditional Puerto Rican musical genre, showcasing documentation of protests, life during and after María, and art of the resistance.
