FRIEZE LONDON AND FRIEZE MASTERS 2024

From 9–13 October, Regent’s Park once again became the epicentre of the art world as Frieze London and Frieze Masters returned with a sharper, refreshed design and outlook. Together, the two fairs convened leading galleries from across continents, with over 165 exhibitors at Frieze London spotlighting cutting-edge contemporary voices, and more than 130 at Frieze Masters rethinking the dialogue between historic art and present-day collecting.

The atmosphere was one of both urgency and vitality – major sales were secured, spanning blue-chip contemporary pieces to Old Masters and rare editions, but the real conversation centred on how London continues to hold its ground as a cultural capital. Over 90,000 visitors moved through the fairs across five days, a crowd that felt notably younger, more international, and more engaged in the shifting politics of art and its market. Beyond the tent walls, the energy radiated into the city, reinforcing London’s reputation not only as a marketplace but as a site of creative exchange.

EXIT ISSUE 44 S/S 2022 SOUGWEN CHUNG

Internationally renowned, Sougwen Chung’s artistic practise uses software, sound, light and space to address the closeness between person-to-person and person-to-machine communication. Hand-drawn and computer-generated marks allow Chung to investigate the relationship between the physical and digital world.

A former research fellow at MIT’s Media Lab and a pioneer in the field of human-machine collaboration, Chung was selected in 2019 as the Woman of the Year in Monaco for achievement in the Arts & Sciences.

Born in Kurdistan, model, creative and activist Deba Hekmat uses her platform to spotlight issues such as beauty standards, mental health, immigration and self-acceptance. After fleeing her hometown of Sardasht at the age of four with her mother and aspirations of a better shot at life, Hekmat began a new start in South London.

Not to be underestimated and humble in her advocacy for social justice, Hekmat continues to be a figure of hope- breaking down the status quo and proving that anything is possible.

Mr Martini celebrates his 25 years of passion riding motorcycles by making people dream with new adventures. The Hatter Matto of Verona pulls two special creations out of his red top hat: a new special and his first book, born to celebrate the 25th anniversary of activity.

Verona, 20 October 2019 – In the world of customizers Mr Martini has occupied a place of his own for twenty-five years. It is 1994 when he presents his first special on the market. A quarter of a century has passed since then and his experience in the sector has become a guarantee.

Mr Martini 25th Anniversary is the event that celebrated the first important milestone in its history. A two-day event (Friday 18 and Saturday 19 October) in which the Mad Hatter opened the doors of a unique space for all fans of special motorcycles and revealed the secrets of his world. There was no better occasion to present his latest “creature” La Venticinque, a visionary like him, who recounts – through two displays integrated into the bike’s fairing – the twenty-five years of activity. This Special is part of the installation hosted in his space, an exhibition that showed all the attendees the 24 most representative bikes of his commitment.

And as a grand finale the presentation of the book “Mr Martini – We are what we build” words and works that tell everything about his story.
