COLETTE

Posted on 2018-12-31

Set at the dawn of the modern age, COLETTE is the story of a woman who has been denied her voice by an overbearing man, and who goes to extraordinary lengths to find it; a battle of the sexes at the very beginning of the modern age, when seismic shifts were taking place in the roles of men and women. More than a century after the publication of her first novel, Colette is still one of the best-selling, and beloved, French authors.

THE FRONT RUNNER

Posted on 2018-12-31

Gary Hart, a U.S. senator from Colorado, is the widely accepted front-runner in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. After losing the 1984 nomination to vice-president Walter Mondale, Hart decides to run for President of the United States. At one point during his campaign, against the will of his manager Bill Dixon, Hart challenges the press and public to “follow him around” while he’s not campaigning on weekends. This proves to be a mistake when in 1987, photos of him and journalist Donna Rice are published by Miami Herald Reporters. In a desperate attempt to clear his name, Hart tries to fix his reputation at a news event concerning the affair but to no avail. Because of the consequences of his actions, Hart is disgraced, berated by Dixon, and forced to drop out of the campaign while his wife Oletha remains to be close with him. Donna also announces that she has personally denied sleeping with the now former senator..

DANNY LYON – THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST & MEXICO

Posted on 2018-12-31

For almost five decades Danny Lyon has been chronicling the stories of the Jaramillo and Sanchez families of Llanito, New Mexico in both photography and film, yet few people know about this work. In the process of making his most recent documentary film, Wanderer (2017), the fourth in the “New Mexico” series, Lyon revisited images that he had made many years ago. He has now published them in the Southwestern Portfolio, which includes photographs of the Jaramillos and Sanchezs made between 1967 and 1983. He also rediscovered a number of early, vintage prints of this work.

The exhibition will feature photographs from Lyon’s Southwestern Portfolio, including large format images made in Mexico during a 1973 road trip with the late writer, Harris Dulany. Also on display at the gallery, photographs shown in Lyon’s international traveling retrospective, which opened at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2016. Etherton will present Lyon’s photographs with two films, so viewers can glimpse the evolution of Lyon’s compassionate vision.

Exhibition runs through to January 5th, 2019
