Carrots and XLARGE have debuted two other collaborative capsule collections since 2016. For the third installment, they revamp a selection of athleisure staples in navy or blue hues, the signature tones of XLARGE and Carrots. Anoraks, track pants, caps and multi-pocketed waist bags are all executed in tonal colors, with bold-face branding adding graphic flair. Logos collide on a long-sleeved T-shirt, driving the capsule’s united intentions home.

THOMAS DEMAND – ARCHIVMATERIAL / NEW STOP MOTION

Posted on 2018-12-31

In the past several years, Thomas Demand has periodically turned his camera away from the models he constructs himself, as content for his well-known photographs, to focus on models he has encountered in the archives and studios of renowned architects. First instigated by the artist’s visits to the John Lautner archives at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles, Demand’s Model Studies continued with the paper constructions he photographed at the Tokyo studio of Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa (SANAA). Sprüth Magers presents ARCHIVMATERIAL, the third iteration of Demand’s contemplative series, which concentrates on models by the Viennese artist-architect Hans Hollein. Also on view, NEW STOP MOTION of the artist’s mesmerizing stop motion animations completed in 2016 and 2018.

HOWLROUND – THE DEDATABLE LANDS

Posted on 2018-12-31

This marks a new, heavier direction for Howlround, a project better known for more ambient work. Described as ‘Tapeloop Techno’, thick knotty tangles of dense, pulsating bass are an echo of Robin’s early days making bad dance music, while the abrasive snarls of feedback swirling around these tracks point to his more recent embrace of indeterminacy and chance composition. Previous vinyl releases on Psyché Tropes, The Wormhole, A Year in the Country and Front & Follow as well as his own label The Fog Signals have shown a deep understanding of the possibilities of tape manipulation.
