EARTH WATER X KANGAROOS

Posted on 2019-06-24

KangaROOS have teamed up with EARTH Water, a Dutch non-profit organization that donates 100% of its net profits from selling its bottled water towards building fountains for communities without access to clean water sources.

Working together, KangaROOS is releasing a limited edition Ultimate OG “Africa” featuring an upper made from yellow and purple suede and textile panels, with a distinct tribal pattern by the midfoot. The shoes are handmade by a team of local experts, career changers and refugees in the region near the KangaROOS headquarters in Pirmasens, and part of the revenue from its sales will go towards financing clean water sources to support communities in Cameroon without clear drinking water.

EARTH Water x KangaROOS Ultimate OG “Africa” will be available on July 6th.

THE NORTH FACE & NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC

Posted on 2019-06-24

The plastic being used for the collection is being taken from waste streams found in public spaces, including Yosemite, Great Smoky Mountains, and Grand Teton National Parks. Each piece dons the phrase,“WASTE IS OVER,” which highlights both companies emphasis on recycling and reusing plastics in new alternative ways.

To help fight the growing volume of plastic production and waste, which will increase to 34 billion metric tons by 2050, The North Face will donate one dollar to the National Park Foundation to support sustainability projects.

CLAUDIA COMTE – BUNNIES AND ZIGZAG

Posted on 2019-06-24

Bunnies and ZigZag presents new sculptural work and a monochromatic vinyl wall painting that snakes through the gallery. Comte’s work draws together
architecture, design, nature and popular culture through motifs and patterns that morph in space. The exhibition foregrounds the artist’s fascination with mutating forms that oscillate between the material and the digital. As a starting point for her work, Comte often begins with wood sourced from sustainable forests in her hometown of Grancy, Morges. Her hand-carved sculptures retain the marks and inflections of her signature tool – the chainsaw – one not known for its precision, but rather for its expediency and force. This approach links Comte’s work to her wider interests in forest ecology and biodiversity, which she evokes through play, connection and touch.

CHIP HOOPER – FROM THE EDGE

Posted on 2019-06-24

Chip Hooper takes us on a visual journey as he contemplated his own existence in the world. Inspired by Mark Rothko’s color field paintings, Hooper turned his camera to the horizon line to articulate his deep and spiritual relationship with large expanses of water. Through images of sublime color, Hooper found the ability to clearly understand the ocean’s place and role in his life and work. “The ocean is the purest expression of creation. In every moment it is ephemeral, constantly recreating itself.

MIMI PLUMB – LANDFALL

Posted on 2019-06-24

Landfall offers an uneasy view into a world seemingly under threat and on the brink of nuclear war. Plumb’s dystopian images provide the viewer with a narrative that is as much ominous as it is seductively mesmerizing and compassionately human. Landfall exquisitely interweaves its storyline through strangely alluringly peculiar landscapes, video arcades, dioramas, and mysterious charred house fire remnants, to beautifully composed flash-lit portraits of friends and strangers – offering a view into a time of extreme disquietude and intrinsic humanism.

LIFE OF WATER WITH JUROR JENNIFER SHAW

Posted on 2019-06-24

Water makes up two thirds of the earth’s surface, and sixty percent of our bodies. It is a pleasure, a salve, a necessity, a means of livelihood, a precious resource, a threat. The photographs selected for this exhibition reflect broadly on our relationship to water, with perspectives ranging from the personal to the political.

Humans have always been drawn to water, and as such have utilized it as subject of art since prehistoric times. The 1398 photographs submitted for this show attest that water continues to provide inspiration. It was a pleasure to spend time with so many wonderful images, and a challenge to arrive at the final selection.

I approached the process with an open mind, allowing the varied interpretations of the theme guide the shape of the show. The seductive qualities of a great composition are in ample evidence, but it was the images imbued with deeper meaning that pulled me in and held my attention over repeated viewings.
