ANN TREER – A MOMENT IN NEW YORK

Posted on 2023-04-17

Treer passed away in 1985 and left behind a small collection of vintage prints that were nestled among the hundreds of prints in David Vestal’s Estate. Vestal was her husband, her confidant and her inspiration in taking pictures, and a well known photographer, writer and researcher in his own right. Vestal wrote in Treer’s obituary “I once embarrassed her by saying that she was the only photographer I have ever looked up to. But it’s the truth. When we went shooting together, she kept bringing back pictures that I wished I had taken. I’ve never felt that about anyone else’s work”.

DARREL ELLIS – REGENERATION

Posted on 2023-04-17

Ellis created a multifaceted body of work that merges painting, printmaking, photography, and drawing before he died of AIDS-related causes at age 33. During his lifetime, his work was included in important contemporary surveys but only now is garnering the posthumous attention it deserves.

The exhibition includes works from major public and private collections, as well as loans from artists for whom Ellis’s work serves as a crucial influence. Among the most poignant and historically significant works are a group of portraits that demonstrate how Ellis documented the experience of living with the AIDS virus. The largest body of work in the exhibition encompass variations on portraits of family members that he pictured and re-pictured in varied media.

Following Kei Toyoshima‘s appointment as Creative Director, Iceland-born label 66°North is uniting with UK designer Charlie Constantinou for an all-new collaboration.

The rising creative has always embraced a weather-centric design language, making a name for himself through Inuit-style garments made to withstand extreme temperature changes. The Central Saint Martins graduate and LVMH Prize finalist is a perfect match for 66°North, merging their aesthetics to create resistant attire for Icelandic landscapes.

Constantinou takes a deep dive into the expansive 66°North archive, scavenging its 90-year history for inspiration. Tech-forward outerwear and knitwear make up the offering, delivering an enduring range to withstand uneasy natural circumstances.

PLEASURES X REEBOK COLLABORATION

Posted on 2023-04-17

This latest collaboration between Reebok and PLEASURES follows the duo’s previously-released Club C iterations, and while PLEASURES has remained busy with collaborative efforts with other brands — such as Stepney Workers Club and ASICS — the label has now returned to Reebok.

Contrasting color schemes have been applied to both sneakers, as the Nano 6000 is hit with an understated sandy hue. On the other hand, the Classic Leather features a combination of “Neon Mint” and “Core Black” tones.

Additionally, the Classic Leather is also hit with a CODURA upper, while the rest of the pack is complemented with aggressive treads on both pairs along with a slew of co-branding and skeleton feet graphics at the toe box.

JONATHAN GARDNER – DUSK

Posted on 2023-04-17

Jonathan Gardner presents Dusk, an exhibition of eight new oil paintings rendered with a surreal approach to form and perspective. Scenes within scenes deconstruct planes into isolated storylines that recall cinematic motifs, creating tension that disorients and entices. Using architectural devices to warp space and time, compositions hover in a transient space between a dream and the ordinary as dusk turns into darkness.
