CARL CRAIG & MORITZ VON OSWALD – ATTENUATOR

Posted on 2020-10-12

“Collaborators & close friends since the foundational years of Berlin and Detroit’s spiritual & musical partnership, two undisputed pioneers of electronic music, Carl Craig and Moritz von Oswald, continue to expand on a shared musical vision. ‘Attenuator’ is the first production to emerge from a series of studio sessions in Berlin and Detroit over the past two years, with more material to come in the near future. Although originally produced in unison, this two-sided single sees both Craig and von Oswald deliver their own distinct take on the material, each fluidly expanding on their uniquely intertwined heritage. For his take on ‘Attenuator’, Carl Craig leans further into the fluid blend of track-led techno and warm musicianship that remain central to his work, building stifling tension as a prelude to a fervent brew of warm pads and celestial sax. Headstrong and deep, Craig embraces his dancefloor nous without sacrificing a moment of beatitude In response, Moritz Von Oswald bathes the brass and the bliss of ‘Attenuator’ in the accomplished Dub texture he’s long been known for, unspooling layers of musicianship to roll forward a loose, fresh and equally fulfilling atmosphere, one that still maintains the arresting pulse established at the heart of the duo’s sophisticated, futurist philosophy.”

RICHARD DEVINE – SYSTIK

Posted on 2020-10-12

Across his SYSTIK LP, producer and sound-designer Richard Devine strikes a fine balance between inventive electronic composition and a thrilling sense of immediacy. What we have here is acid done Devine-style recorded in January of 2020 using only a small 7U Intellijel portable modular system, Roland TR-8S drum machine, 2 Eventide H9 effects pedals, and two modified TB-303’s. ‘Entcid’, the epic track with which this LP opens, brings the listener expertly into the world of SYSTIK. Across an eighteen-minute run-time Devine takes in passages of feverish music which swirl together influences from acid techno, braindance and broken-beat electro in brilliantly unique ways. The beats may vary throughout, but a sense of forward-motion propels the track ever onwards, even at its glitchiest there is still plenty of pulse to ‘Entcid’.

CHARLES WEBSTER – THE SPELL (BURIAL MIX)

Posted on 2020-10-05

Dimensions Recordings are very proud to welcome the legendary Charles Webster with the first track from his first major solo album in two decades, ‘Decision Time’. This first single ‘The Spell’ also features a remix from Burial and the vocals of Ingrid Chavez.

Operating in house music since the mid ’80s, Charles Webster is revered as something like the producer’s producer, spoken about in the same breath as Larry Heard or Ron Trent amongst the DJ cognoscenti, releasing music over the years under 30 different pseudonyms with over 500 remixes.

After moving to San Francisco in the late nineties, he created an album under the alias Presence entitled ‘All Systems Gone’. The “pillowy” sound design of this classic is cited as a key influence on the music of Burial. For this track, Burial has paid a further tribute, contributing a rare remix, additionally to a dub mix from Charles. This track also includes the words of Prince muse Ingrid Chavez. who famously wrote the spoken word poetry in Madonna’s ‘Justify My Love’.

L/F/D/M – MUTUAL AUTOPSY

Posted on 2020-10-05

British producer L/F/D/M returns to Voitax with his Mutual Autopsy EP, a strong four-tracker that is characterised by Smith’s undenably grainy lo-fi signature. The whole package is armed with heavyweight kicks, bloating basslines and crunchy, percussive patterns, that he perfectly crowns with some memorable and catchy synth lines. The former art student, as well as one half of Bronze Teeth, shows once again his ability to modulate his way into the abstract, while keeping it groovy and warm and firmly secures himself in the ranks with the techno avant-garde.

YRE DEN – SOILSTRETCH

Posted on 2020-10-05

Yre Den might come with an enormous question mark above their head, but the Soilstretch 12” paints a sublime picture of a techno technician more than willing to take risks. Luckily, the manic clangour and kuduro-adjacent rhythms of the title track and its b-side counterpart ‘Glitterer’ don’t take risks when it comes to hard-hitting grooves. Bellowing percussion slide alongside digitised snare strikes, while chiming high end synths and pitched block hits make for a hypnotic release indeed.
