KELLY LEE OWENS – ARPEGGI

Posted on 2020-08-31

Tracks such as ‘Arpeggi’, the Radiohead cover which begins Inner Song, and the John Cale collaboration ‘Corner Of My Sky’ find Owens maintaining the sonic palette of techno but pushing on into a zone of etherised electronics that draws from Spiritualized, Brian Eno and μ-Ziq. Owens says that Inner Song has emerged from a rather difficult period in her personal life, and on electro-ballads like ‘Re-Wild’ we find her facing down those experiences with some of her most forthright vocal performances to date. Glasser and Owens’ former collaborator Jon Hopkins would both be good points of comparison for these numbers. However, Owens does not allow her struggles to overshadow her love for the dancefloor – ‘Melt!’ and ‘Jeanette’ are the sort of steely-eyed, slightly trippy techno tools one associates with labels like Ostgut Ton and Stroboscopic Artefacts.

OLIVER COATES – BUTOH BABY

Posted on 2020-08-31

In his follow-up album to 2018’s Shelley’s on Zenn-La, the British cellist and producer leads an impassioned performance of string through viscous, synthetic modulation, triggering a darker side of his compositional sensibilities. Shelley’s experimental dance hybrids are substituted here for scorching color palettes and brutal, howling tones to embody the mess of uninhibited creativity.

VLADISLAV DELAY + SLY DUNBAR + ROBBIE SHAKESPEARE

Posted on 2020-08-24

The meeting of Vladislav Delay (Sasu Ripatti), Sly Shakespeare and Robbie Dunbar produces the set of mind-expanding post-dub experiments that everyone hoped it would. All involved are on top form on Vladislav Delay Meets Sly & Robbie: 500-PUSH-UP, with the rocksteady grooving of the Riddim Twins and Vladislav Delay’s adventurous electronics bouncing off one another to create some brilliantly creative musical excursions.

DONA FT. ALOTH – MINDSCAPES

Posted on 2020-08-24

Dona Aka Dj Plant Texture’s debut on Mannequin is the result of an effective true love for the early Chicago Acid and Jackbeat, mixed with textures of EBM and Cold Wave. “Mindscapes”, featuring the haunted vocals of Aloth, represents a trip into states of consciousness and psychiatric diseases. Ispired by some reports describing America’s Mental health System during the latest 70’s, the EP is a blend of analog machines, forced to create the perfect jam session.

Limited edition of 300 copies on 140gr black vinyl.

First 50 copies comes with a handnumbered alternative blue art cover available only at Mannequin Records bandcamp.
