TOBACCO – HOT WET & SASSY

Posted on 2020-10-26

It’s been four years since Sweatbox Dynasty, the fourth solo LP from Pennsylvanian experimentalist TOBACCO. In that time, Tom Fec’s project has toured with Nine Inch Nails, provided the theme song to HBO series Silicon Valley, and teamed with Aesop Rock for a collaborative album as Malibu Ken. He now returns to Ghostly International for Hot Wet & Sassy, a full-length album oozing with his most playful and approachable songs to date, which, conversely, express notions of antilove, self-hate, and disappointment in others.

PETER BRODERICK – BLACKBERRY

Posted on 2020-10-26

A busy man like multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Peter Broderick really deserves a holiday. Blackberry almost sounds like his idea of one. Notably separate from his storied catalogue in sort-of-modern-classical, this LP sees Broderick singing for the first time in five years with a chipper pop song in his heart. ‘Stop and Listen’ is a jaunty folk sing-along, complete with carefree mouth-trumpet sounds, while alt-country wanderings like ‘But’ and ‘Wild Food’ recall Arthur Russell’s blissfully infectious pastoralism.

MR. BUNGLE – SUDDEN DEATH

Posted on 2020-10-26

Most artists would be too embarrassed to look as far back as their high school days for material. Ever the group of metal contrarians, Mr. Bungle have done exactly that. The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny Demo sees the original line-up reunite to re-record their early thrash demo, along with a couple of covers by S.O.D. and Corrosion Of Conformity. It’s all hugely joyous and experimental in true Bungle style, stocked full of face-melting riffs and breakneck hardcore blast beats.

FILMMAKER – LATE STAGE EARTH

Posted on 2020-10-19

Returning to Opal Tapes after the highly lauded ‘Royal Dungeon EP’, Medellin, Colombia’s Filmmaker issues a damned statement in the form of ‘Late Stage Earth’ a 4-tracker of scorched electro and slamming EBM. Perfectly poised and composed dance music formed over pointillist electro melody and swung out druggy drum programming replete with wheezing pained pads.
