BAS JAN ADER

Posted on 2016-07-04

Ader’s well-documented story is so compelling that his poignant art is fused into the narrative of his history. In 1963 Ader moved from Amsterdam to Los Angeles where he was associated with a group of artists whose work would define an important strain of conceptual art distinct to the West Coast. There he produced a small but extraordinarily affecting body of artworks prior to 1975, when he disappeared at sea while sailing the Atlantic alone as the second part of his trilogy “In Search of the Miraculous.” The first part, included in the exhibition, comprises 18 black-and-white photographs of the artist walking through Los Angeles at night. The third part was to be an exhibition at the Groeningen Museum after arriving in Europe. Bas Jan Ader’s art had the same effect, beauty and pathos when it was exhibited more than 40 years ago, without knowing his family history or the dramatic and mysterious circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Exhibition runs through till August 5th, 2016

G-SHOCK × BEAMS

Posted on 2016-07-04

Japanese clothing brand and retailer BEAMS have teame with G-Shock for a collaboration watch to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The limited edition G-Shock x BEAMS 40th Anniversary Watch is based on the G-001, a revival of the 1994 classic DW-001 capsule-like model also known as the “Jason” (from Friday the 13th movies) due to its resemblance to a hockey mask. The BEAMS G-001 features a unique multi-hued gray color scheme. Other than that there is no indication of its collaborative status on the bezel or bands, but there is a custom BEAMS logo engraving on the metal case back under the resin case back protector as well as a unique G-001BE model number. Also the EL backlight displays the BEAMS 40th Anniversary logo.

ASH KOOSHA – BIUTIFUL

Video drop for the single, Biutiful from the album I ASH I by Ash Koosha. Born in Iran and currently living in London, Ash makes the kind of “mind-bending electronic music” (Pitchfork), which has had the cognoscenti buzzing for months.

Working mainly with his own field recordings, treating each sampled source as a physical object, Koosha squeezes, stretches, distorts and moulds units of sound before using a background in classical music – both Persian and Western – gleaned from his time at the Tehran Conservatory of Music to structure and shape the result into affecting, original and often beautiful movements – a process he calls “finding geometry in sounds.”
