ANNA KLEBERG – THE PET CEMETERY

Posted on 2014-02-10

The pet cemetery Djurkyrkogården lies hidden on the island Djurgården in Stockholm. There are around 2000 graves for pets; dogs, cats, turtles and horses and new graves are continually added. The oldest is believed to belong to the author August Blanche’s dog Nero, buried in mid 19th century.
With the pet cemetery as a starting point, and with support in the Attachment Theory, (developed by among others Bowlby and Ainsworth in the middle of the 20th century), Kleberg has made a new film in which she investigates questions concerning how attachment affects us in our close relationships and by the loss or lack of them and all that they incorporate; closeness, security and care.
The film is built around conversations with people who have experienced a close human-animal relationship.
”I started thinking about things such as the relationship with a pet; the contact, and what happens with the relationship when the pet dies and so forth. Many of us probably have more physical contact with the computer’s keyboard today. How does that affect us?”

THE JULIE RUIN – GOODNIGHT, GOODBYE

Posted on 2014-02-10

The Julie Ruin, who are fronted by former Le Tigre and Bikini Kill member Kathleen Hanna, released their debut album ‘Run Fast’ in 2013 on Dischord Records. ‘Goodnight, Goodbye’ features on the album and now has a video directed and shot on Super 8 by Sally Cinnamon.

Lyrics:
Drove all night through the dirty melted snow
Didn’t care if we ever got played on the radio
Held ourselves together with tape and twine
Wielded confidence like it was a shiny knife

Goodnight Goodbye

What happens when you’re not 20 but 41
And you have to sink in to the you, you’ve now become
Will the teenage sneer you so cultivated
Sneer back at you and make you feel so hated?

Goodnight Goodbye

Maybe it’s human nature to feel so sure
That suffering’s a good excuse for bad behavior
Left fades right and up can turn to down
But pain can’t fade when you wear it as a crown

Goodnight Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye

Italian paper makers with 125 years experience, Fedrigoni find their top quality paper wrapped around Leica‘s popular X2 camera. Chosen – their pearl embossed Constellation Jade paper, replacing the usual leather band wrap. Testament to the products durability, the icy cool covering is said to give just as much protection as its hide equivalent, able to withstand fast and slow temperature changes from -40 ° to +70 ° C and abrasion tested over 400 times. The intricate packaging references an old-school paper sample book, the lucky buyer having to unwrap 16 layers, each telling part of the Fedrigoni story, whilst reminding us all of the sustainability issues around plastic packaging.

The Leica X2 Special Edition “Fedrigoni” was produced in a limited edition of only 25 pieces.

VICTOR BY HASSELBLAD PHOTOGRAPHY BOOK 3

Posted on 2014-02-07

The eagerly awaited Edition Three of Hasselblad’s much lauded VICTOR Photography Book is available this week and the accent is now even more firmly on the outstanding images that are being showcased. Following its relaunch back in September 2012, Hasselblad’s book format publication VICTOR has gained plaudits from every quarter, due to its supremely high production values and the quality of the photographers who have been included. Issue Two continued the good work and further established the look, and now Issue Three is again going to be something special.

While the format remains the same this time round the mix of text and images has changed a little, with even more emphasis now being placed on the visuals and the scale at which pictures have been used. Otherwise the values that have quickly established VICTOR as a ‘must buy’ publication remain: exquisitely printed and hard bound, it’s more of a luxury book than a magazine, and the words, as before, are translated into a variety of languages, and so it’s accessibleto everyone.

As with the previous two editions the line-up of photographers being featured is awesome: David Lynch, Matthias Koslik, Andy Rudak, Bernhard Edmaier, Alisha Goldstein, Laurent Segretier, Timothy Hogan, Derek Kendall, Klaus Thymann, John Robert Rowland, Morgan Fisher and Brad Harris. “We’re delighted to have pulled together such a celebrated line up of names,” says Paul Waterworth, Hasselblad’s Global Photographer Relations Manager. “It’s a tribute to how well respected the publication is that so many great photographers are prepared to contribute.”

While the overall look and feel of the publication is the same, and the price remains at a hugely competitive €20/GBP15/US$25 plus shipping costs, there has been a change in the way the magazine is distributed. Customers can still order VICTOR online at www.newsstand.co.uk to be shipped all over the world, but now all Hasselblad subsidiaries (UK, Germany, US, France and Japan) are also offering to supply the magazine directly.

More news and information about VICTOR magazine can be found online at www.victorbyhasselblad.com and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/VICTORbyHasselblad
