ROY DECARAVA – the sound i saw
2026-10-19The photographs move between ordinary city scenes and the charged atmosphere of musical performance. Deliverymen work, children play, commuters wait for trains and solitary corners take on an elegiac weight. Alongside them are portraits of musicians, photographed onstage and off, caught in concentration, fatigue or private reflection. DeCarava does not separate these worlds. The rhythm of the street and the rhythm of jazz belong to the same city, shaped by movement, pause, labor and improvisation.
