ISIK KURAL – ON A CLOTHESLINE
2026-03-30As Flurries in its original form, and presented now with preference from perspective, draws its inspiration from Turiya Sings, Alice Coltrane self-released album from 1982, intended for students at her Sai Anantam Ashram in southern California. Unlike the 2021 reissue of Turiya Sings, which extracted the iconic synthesizer and string arrangements, leaving just Coltrane’s vocals and organ, Kural focuses on the instrumental aspects of his earlier work for the As Flurries EP, his voice removed as the compass.
Removing the lyrical musings and literary allusions of Kural’s two albums for RVNG, in february (2022) and Moon in Gemini (2024), As Flurries welcomes listeners to experience the imaginative minimalism of the compositions underpinning the young artist’s prolific discography. Carried along by wisps of synths and fragments of field recordings, the songs of As Flurries land lightly across the EP’s intangible surface, forming a gossamer blanket. Melodies flicker in and out of focus, like the eponymous flurries; swirling about the listener, Isik’s cared-for textures billow with a light gale-force, equally oriented towards reaching and resting.
