HANS-PETER FELDMANN

Posted on 2013-06-03

The focus of the exhibition is put on pictures stemming from different sources, mainly 19th and early 20th century paintings. In his Dreiergruppen (triads) Feldmann arranges three images of different traditional subject-matters and techniques.

Each viewer may perceive and interpret these constellations in his or her own way. Thus images of clearly defined theme and content are integrated in a network of open and complex relationships.
Feldmann continuously ties his work to the history of image production and its entire cultural spectrum, from fine art to mass production, from children’s books to photography and postcards. He is interested in which images are popular, held in esteem and collected by people at any given time. By way of painterly interventions he creates a new, contemporary context: red noses, crossed eyes and black eyes add a strikingly modern and humorous accent to the dusty and solemn images. Feldmann brings the stiff and conventional portraits back to life.

Exhibition runs through to June 22nd, 2013
