MARÍA ŠVARBOVÁ: SWIMMING POOLS

Posted on 2023-05-22

A selection of works by Slovakian photographer María Švarbová, whose bright and playful images of nearly-identical bathers bely a deeper commentary on the controlled simplicity of her childhood in the Eastern Bloc. Her Swimming Pools series has been published in two monographs and earned her a 2018 Hasselblad Masters Award in Fine Art Photography.

MINOR SCIENCE – ABSENT FRIENDS VOL. III

Posted on 2023-05-22

Minor Science’s Absent Friends series has eluded regular format, switching from a collage-esque DJ mix to an “infinitely looping minisite”. Now landing on Albert Salinas and Philip Sherburne’s Balmat, the series’ third reincarnation takes the form of Angus Finlayson’s second album, where he recreates live material into jittery, mercurial soundscapes. Vol. III seems to take cues more from the likes of Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto than the club frenzy of his prior efforts, with an explorative beatless direction previously hinted at on quieter moments in between the ruckus of his debut Second Language. Yet the rancour of rave displayed in the year’s earlier 064 EP still remains, teased in the active buzz of synths and sonic objects racing against each other till they crash.

SKATE TO THE SUN BY RHYMEZLIKEDIMEZ X TOYQUBE

Posted on 2023-05-22

Known for his dreamy, sun-soaked ‘visualiser’ videos for some of hip-hop’s top stars, Belgian artist Rhymezlikedimez (Robin Velghe) brings his signature, cartoon aesthetic to life with the Skate To The Sun vinyl art toy created in collaboration with ToyQube. With the sunset sky reflected in his shades, the artist’s Puff cloud kid character glides through summer on his board, apple in hand. The figure translates Rhymeslikedimez’s carefree, joyful art and distinctive palette.

An edition of 150.

THE END. X ADIDAS “EQUALS” PACK

Posted on 2023-05-22

The two-part offering comes together as a celebration of equality in the fashion industry with the pack titled, “Equals.”

Though the sporty silhouette appears to be an edition from the adidas archives, the Torsion Super debuted on the sneaker scene just earlier this year. Drawing design cues from the Torsion and ZX series, it presents itself as an amalgamation of the best elements of the late ‘80s models, featuring the Eurosuper’s lateral wave detailing and the Torsion system sole.

For the sneaker’s first-ever collaborative adaptation, END. elevates the retro-inspired design by highlighting its mix and matched features with high-quality materials and subtle colorways. On the first iteration, the retailer taps into its running inspirations, placing a Navy Blue spacer mesh body under a Dusty Pink nubuck webbed panel. It is finished with a double-layered three stripes in a rough Teal suede.

The second version in the pack goes more everyday focused in its design. As opposed to the Spacer Mesh underlay, it dresses the body in a smooth leather in “Off-White.” Adding to its premium feel, the nubuck paneling is tinted in a rich “Rust Red” and is complemented by embroidered brand logos in the same tone on the heel tab. Both models also feature the wording “Equals” in a cursive font on the tongue with extra branding on the lace aglets.

The END. x adidas “Equals” pack drops on July 28th, 2023

Featuring a high-performance, handmade sound system composed of a wall of brutalist speakers, a turntable, a series of amplifiers and seats typically reserved for meditation, this site-specific acoustic setting creates a transformative environment to absorb and reflect. Described by Turnbull as a “shrine to music”, each week a varied, curated programme of recorded tracks is presented, from unreleased music to all-time favorites across a range of mediums including vinyl, analogue tape and more.
