JOY ORBISON – STILL SLIPPING VOL. 1

Posted on 2021-08-16

At this point, Joy O is a national treasure and should be recognised for his service to electronic music. From the heady post-dubstep breakout HYPH MNGO to the present day, every new release feels like a micro-cultural event – simultaneously reinterpreting contemporary music movements in his inimitable style, while influencing the output of countless producers for the year to follow.

Even so, Still Slippin’ Vol. 1 is a true landmark for Joy O. It’s his first full length release, which is remarkable for someone who has retained an untouchable status for over a decade. Presented as a mixtape rather than an album in the traditional sense, it touches on many styles and BPMs while feeling purely UK, and purely Joy O, throughout.

BLACK LIVES IN ALASKA – JOURNEY, JUSTICE, JOY

Posted on 2021-08-16

Generations before statehood and earlier even than the Klondike gold rush of the 1890s, Black men and women arrived in Alaska and have since participated in politics, economic development and culture. They patrolled the seas, built the roads, served in the military and public life, opened businesses, fought injustice, created art and forged communities. This exhibition, told through archival photos and collected materials, showcases the richness and resilience of Black lives in Alaska.

Posted on 2021-08-16

Silas Short is a Chicago-based singer and musician who produces his own music, synthesizing influences from soul and classic R&B. Silas Short’s route to releasing music was nothing less than difficult, including shattering a bone in his left hand at age 19 while delivering pizzas, subsequently developing his own self-described “Liquid-Style” guitar playing.
