Y-3 SPRING/SUMMER 2016

Posted on 2016-02-15

The collection originated in a series of sketches that Yamamoto imagined with rapid-fire creativity. The drawings yield the clothing itself, but also serve as decoration when printed as artwork across a range of apparel from tanks to T-shirts. Further inspired, Yamamoto created four self-portraits of himself in motion that are also used as graphic treatment. For the designer, the topic of movement is most clearly encapsulated in a series of stunning ponchos in three distinct silhouettes, two of which are emblazoned with his sketches.

The poncho is undoubtedly the star of the collection, arriving in 3 distinct styles. The first in a classic black, ultra- light, rain-proof nylon with custom white Yamamoto artwork, the second in a light air mesh fabric featuring a voluminous silhouette that can be converted and customized; and the third a bonded, two-layer poncho.

KENZO – SNOWBIRD – SS2016 COLLECTION

Posted on 2016-02-01

KENZO presents a new film by the acclaimed writer/director Sean Baker, entitled Snowbird, featuring the KENZO Spring-Summer 2016 collection from Creative Directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim.

Snowbird stars Abbey Lee in her latest role since appearing in the blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road. Abbey Lee plays ‘Young Theo’, a young woman living in a remote desert community.

Sean Baker wrote and directed this original short for KENZO; coming off of his critically-acclaimed feature Tangerine, a dramatic slapstick of life of two Los Angeles trans women, Baker filmed Snowbird in a similar method – it was shot entirely on iPhone.

Slab City, where the film was shot, is a character unto itself in Snowbird. Located in the Sonoran Desert in Calfornia, Slab City is a conglomeration of domestic structures cobbled together with all manner of material, a Mecca for eccentrics living off the grid.

Snowbird is equal parts daydream, elegiac wanderlust, and subtle comedy. Snowbird’s focus is on the narrative and eschews the glitz and glamour of fashion. Even the time period is subjective. The film captures real people in their own surroundings together with actors known for myriad indelible achievements in film history.
