THOMAS HOLTON – THE LAMS OF LUDLOW STREET

Posted on 2025-07-28

Since 2003, Holton has immersed himself in the life of the Lam family, capturing both the private and public dimensions of their world with an unfiltered, empathetic lens. What began as an artistic inquiry into his own Chinese heritage has evolved into a lifelong commitment to storytelling—one that reflects the complexities of family, migration, and cultural hybridity in contemporary America.

A lifelong New Yorker of mixed Chinese and American descent, Holton has long grappled with a sense of detachment from his Chinese roots. His photographic journey with the Lams became both a creative and personal act of connection, a way to bridge the gaps in his own identity through the lens of another family’s experiences. The resulting images document adolescence, marriage, resilience, and the quiet, unscripted moments that define family life.

BRAVEST STUDIOS – AIRPODS AIRPACK BACKPACK

Posted on 2025-07-28

Bravest Studios has revealed its latest statement piece: the AIRPACK, a wearable backpack modeled after Apple’s iconic AirPods case. Set to launch later this week, the 44-liter accessory reimagines tech minimalism as streetwear utility.

The design features a smooth white capsule exterior with a clamshell-style zipper that opens to reveal two dome-shaped pouches inside each resembling a supersized earbud. These removable compartments offer flexible storage, while a dedicated laptop sleeve and adjustable straps round out the bag’s functional appeal. The AIRPACK debuted at a pop-up event in NYC’s Soho district, accompanied by a billboard-scale mural campaign that amplified its surreal proportions and cultural resonance.

PAT STEIR – MIRAGE 1975

Posted on 2025-07-21

‘Mirage 1975’ is comprised of simple geometric shapes painted in primary colors and situated within an all-over grid pattern rendered directly onto the walls. As with the artist’s renowned canvases—such as those currently on view in the exhibition of new paintings ‘Pat Steir: Song’ at Hauser & Wirth Zurich—these gridlines take the act of mark-making as the subject. By defining the planar field and subsequently using geometric elements to cut through the grid’s axes, Steir transforms familiar iconography, like hearts and flowers, into physically constructed shapes. By analyzing the additive process through which meaning is made, Steir deftly explores the place where a mark becomes a line and a line becomes a word or an image. Borrowing and transposing elements from previous installations, ‘Mirage 1975’ offers a procession of familiar lines, colors and shapes to create a kind of semiotics of art that has been at the heart of Steir’s work for over 50 years now.

BRIAN CALVIN – LOITERING

Posted on 2025-07-21

The title of the exhibition, with its Baudelairean overtones, is also, in some respects, a red herring. Perhaps it refers to these painted figures that linger together. And perhaps visitors to art galleries in large urban centres are the new flâneurs, who would occupy a prominent place in an updated version of Tableaux Parisiens. But above all, the title has to do with the artist’s own experience in his confrontation with these faces. ‘I’ve spent half, or at least a good part of my life sitting here in my studio, wandering in the company of a painting,’ explains the painter, who tells stories of excitement when something happens on the canvas, but also of slowness and calm.
