ERIC NATHANIEL MACK – OBDURATE SPACE

Posted on 2024-07-08

Galleria Franco Noero is pleased to present Obdurate Space, the second solo exhibition of Eric Nathaniel Mack with the gallery in Torino. For the occasion, the artist has conceived a new series of works that tie in with the architecture and environment of the gallery’s outdoor garden space, a former industrial site on Via Pollone: this location, which is only a few meters away from the exhibition space on Via Mottalciata and has now become its outdoor counterpart.
The exhibition brings together a body of works that focus on some of the themes most dear to the artist. From his most recognizable richly textured compositions through the assemblage of textiles mounted on metal stretchers whose colors and prints serve as a palette, favoring and emphasizing their sculptural presence through the addition of elements such as space and volume, and so doing, in a continuous effort to synthesize painting with sculpture.

The Secret Lair x Brain Dead card set is split into three different drops: Creatures, Lands and Staples. For Creatures, Brain Dead picked a few fan-favorites like the Sphinx, Goblin Shaman and goopy green Ooze for playful recreations.

With Lands, the brand designed two cards for each environment, showcasing different aspects of MTG’s landscapes. Staple, meanwhile, delivers Commander cards, which are played in a deck of 100 among four players.

Art for the cards was created by Gage Lindsten, Ema Gaspar, Gomzé, JRZ251, Hank Reavis, Bardo Bread, Jackson Epstein and Kogan.

GARY KRUEGER – DOGS IN CARS

Posted on 2024-07-08

This small thematic group of canine cruisers was culled from Krueger’s impressive archive of vintage, 8×10 inch gelatin silver prints. Using his quick reflexes and chrome-plated Canon F-1 camera, these images, found in the City of Angeles in the 1970s, is a nostalgic series capturing a unique slice of Los Angeles life, and blending the allure of vintage automobiles with the endearing personalities of these four-legged companions.

CARIBOU – BROKE MY HEART (CHAMPION REMIX)

Posted on 2024-07-01

Caribou follows through on last month’s two-tracker single with a new remix EP for the track ‘Broke My Heart’. Out on Berlin’s City Slang imprint, with whom Caribou has had a longstanding relationship, this package takes the zippy, almost hyperpop-lite fizz of its sample material in two intersecting directions. Champion pitches that instantly catchy vocal chop down a few octaves to fit snugly around the walloping bass of speed garage take, while Harry Hayes keeps things in the high register as he two steps his way to the finish, as well.

HERBERT W. FRANKE – ILLUMINATING THE INVISIBLE

Posted on 2024-07-01

ILLUMINATING THE INVISIBLE pays tribute to Franke’s unique combination of creative and scientific pursuits, each informing the other. Indeed, the impulse toward aesthetic innovation guided Franke much more than any consideration of traditional notions of artistic beauty. As early as 1953, Franke put the photographic camera to groundbreaking ends, using the device to record forms and structures that exist in the world as such, but are “invisible” to the human eye – they can be detected solely with the aid of technology. By employing scientific equipment – x-rays, microscopes, oscilloscopes, among others – Franke essentially turned the medium away from its traditional application as a method for depicting things that were already there. As early as 1957, Franke published a visionary book “Kunst und Konstruktion” already in pursuit of “the fusion between technical and artistic processes”. He wrote: “I firmly believe that a process does not lose its ability to instill wonder when we succeed in uncovering some of the laws and connections that determine it. Not wanting to know the explanation of something even though it can easily be learned amounts to willfully deceiving oneself.” With his photographic artworks, he not only wanted to shed light on the fantastic, but invisible structures in nature as well, uncovering the underlying, hidden beauty of mathematics and algorithms.
