ADIDAS SPZL PRE-SPRING 2024 COLLECTION

Posted on 2024-04-03

Turning from footwear to apparel and accessories, adidas Spezial’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection plays host to a number of expertly curated looks. Headlining the collection is the already iconic Todmorden Smock. First released in Spring Summer 2021 to an immediate sell out, this season the coveted style returns in two colourways: navy and white. A commemorative 10th anniversary Mod Trefoil tee then brings the Spezial spirit to life as a certified collectors item.

Two lightweight jackets – the Trentham and the Wingrove – constitute perfect spring layering items, while the matching Angelzarke track top and track pants are awash with signature Spezial details. The apparel offering is then rounded out by the Rossendale Short, a Polo shirt, and the Lytham tee.

The accessories offering comprises of the Brinscall bag, a Mod Trefoil cap, a two pack of socks, and a Mod Trefoil towel.

This drop, (which is the first chapter in a range that will span the rest of the year) is brought to life by a campaign film featuring actor and musician Ashley Walters (Top Boy, Bulletproof). Dynamic, iconic, matter of fact – the film and stills created by long term collaborators &SON perfectly encapsulate the energy of the range.

‘It was such an honour to be a part of this campaign. adidas is a brand that I have always aligned with throughout my career, and the Spezial range has only reinforced my love. 10 years of greatness, inclusivity, and connection with culture. Here’s to many more.’ Ashley Walters, March 2024.

DUSTIN O’HALLORAN – 1 0 0 1

Posted on 2024-04-02

Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning composer and pianist Dustin O’Halloran (one half of ambient music duo A Winged Victory of the Sullen) delivers his long-awaited new electronics-forward album on Deutsche Grammophon. 1 0 0 1 is an exploration of nature, consciousness, technology, and the profound implications of artificial intelligence and our understanding of it. Designed for “intentional listening” – to be experienced as a whole, in the same way as we take our time to contemplate a painting or a sculpture – this immersive album provides a space in which to slow down and reflect on some of the complex philosophical questions facing our ever more rapidly evolving world.

BELSTAFF SS24

Posted on 2024-04-01

For its first seasonal offering of its 100-year milestone, Belstaff explores its diverse heritage, specifically its ties to the outdoors, with a technical collection crafted for today’s explorers.

Taking notes from the conditions, terrains, and sights of Scafell Pike in Cumbria – a quintessential landscape in the British countryside – the Spring/Summer 2024 range comes together with a variety of archival pieces reworked in new fabrications that are designed to aid expeditions. The all-weather Castmaster parka characterizes the functional drop with its newly introduced cool-touch polyester and quick dry UV finishing inspired by the innovation behind Belstaff’s 1930s “Sporting Waterproofs”.

MR. POTATODOGHEAD BY K.R X IZUMONSTER

Posted on 2024-04-01

Under the collaborative efforts of K.R. and IZUMONSTER, the iconic figure of Mr. PotatoDogHead has undergone a radical transformation, reimagining its classic appearance.

The figure is meticulously crafted, retains its potato-shaped head but now captivates with a redesigned face. Bright eyes contrast with the brain model on top, and the toothy mouth adds a touch of humor. Replacing the black hat with the brain model cleverly blends whimsy and surrealism, enhancing the character’s charm.

This Mr. PotatoDogHead showcases K.R. and IZUMONSTER’s artistic collaboration, mixing horror and humor. It’s both alluring and unsettling, with the brain structure symbolizing creativity and the character’s leap from the ordinary to a realm of pure imagination. This narrative art challenges conventions, drawing viewers into a captivating, imaginary world.

PHOTOGRAPHS BY FOUR AFRICAN AMERICAN PHOTOJOURNALISTS

Posted on 2024-04-01

The exhibition consists of a sampling of about a dozen images per artist, each revealing a distinctive vision and a keen ability to capture the moments that tells us so much not only about their subject but about the picture maker themselves.

Eli Reed has the distinction of being the first black photographer to become a member of the elite photojournalists collective Magnum Photos along with its’ prestigious international roster of some of the finest photographers in the field. Reed’s images are a study of the human condition. While many focus on the lives of people of color in all strata of society from the impoverished to the gifted and celebrated, he treats all his subjects with dignity and deference. Reed’s 1994 canny portrait of Gordon Parks and his daughter Toni taken in London, reveal their faces etched with what feels like a complicated and perhaps difficult moment in a father-daughter relationship.

RAVEN CHACON – A WORM’S EYE VIEW FROM A BIRD’S BEAK

Posted on 2024-04-01

A 2023 MacArthur “Genius” Fellow and the first Native American artist to receive the Pulitzer Prize for music in 2022, Chacon works through sound, video, scores, performance and sculpture to address Indigenous sovereignty and environmental justice. The show brings together groundbreaking works from the last 25 years with a newly commissioned sound and video installation, novel iterations of pioneering works, and a major public art mural on SI’s building. The exhibition spans diverse geographic contexts: Sápmi (the Sámi homeland traversed by the present-day nation states of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia) and Lenapehoking, or New York, in Turtle Island. Both locations share Indigenous histories and presents that colonialism has attempted to eradicate for centuries. Yet they are also sites where resilience, or, in the words of cultural theorist Gerald Vizenor, survivance, continues to thrive.

Exhibition runs through to April 14th, 2024
