CALEB STEIN – DOWN BY THE HUDSON

Posted on 2022-10-17

Caleb Stein’s Down by the Hudson series is an ongoing ‘ode’ to the small town of Poughkeepsie, New York. Rendered in black-and-white, his photographs provide an intimate glimpse into the lives of Poughkeepsie’s residents amidst the current backdrop of de-industrialization and political tension in the U.S. The watering hole serves as a neutral zone, a side-step from the day-to-day turbulence of life. It is a communal ground that provides a place of recreation and refuge.

Exhibition runs through to October 29th, 2022

CHRIS ENGMAN: THE ARTIST AS EXPLORER

Posted on 2022-10-17

Originally created by Chris Engman between 2002-2006, this is the first time this series of black and white photographs is being presented in Los Angeles. These works read differently now than when they were produced 15-20 years ago. Certainly, we have all become accustomed to images that lie more boldly or more insidiously, and as a result, the flaws in the illusions these works create will for some be more readily apparent in 2022. For Engman, however, a complete illusion is an uncompelling one—and he has always been more interested in the flaws than in the fooling. The flaws allow the viewer to enter the image and better understand the process behind it, which was conceived at the time by the artist as a performance.

THE ROWING BLAZERS X LUKE EDWARD HALL

Posted on 2022-10-17

New York City-based brand Rowing Blazers has reunited with British artist and designer Luke Edward Hall for a new collaboration. Marking their second collection, the new effort is filled with ancient wonder.

In conceptualizing their latest collaboration, the two entities combined their experience in archaeology and art. In its celebration of the ancient world, the collaboration still stays true to Rowing Blazers’ roots with a range of preppy styles. As part of the brand’s FW22 collection, the collaboration sees two-colored striped suits, rugby shirts, cable knit sweaters, button-down shirts, embroidered corduroy pants and more.

SAUCONY X MAYBE TOMORROW

Posted on 2022-10-17

The LA-based label, helmed by Mark Nguyen, has joined arms with Saucony to produce a two-pronged footwear capsule that’s inspired by Aesop’s classic fable “The Tortoise and the Hare.”

Fittingly titled the “Better Together” collection, the duo’s new initiative communicates the concept that runners are actually stronger when they align and work towards a common goal or in this case, the finish line. Maybe Tomorrow has elected to put its creative touch on two silhouettes: the 3D Grid Hurricane and the Shadow 6000.

MINDER – SIMULATED HUNT

Posted on 2022-10-17

The first single drop to be taken from the forthcoming ‘Sanctuary’ long player, ‘Simulated Hunt’ perfectly encapsulates Minder’s unsettling sound and originality.

After a devastating opening salvo of 19 modernist rave mutations on a double tape pack for Sneaker Social Club, Minder lands on Hypercolour with another 19 cybernetic fever dreams still reeling from the open season NRG of hardcore. The ‘Sanctuary’ album gets a full release in November 2022…

PANGAEA – STILL FLOWING WATER

Posted on 2022-10-17

Back on Hessle Audio, Pangaea drops some absolutely vicious club weapons with his latest EP since 2020’s Like This. ‘Fuzzy Logic’ and ‘Still Flowing Water’ turn the full throttle headbanging up to eleven, both heavy hitters with nocturnal club vibes. The morse code bleeps of the former drive pumping rhythms above a swampy sub bass, as pummelling breaks plunge beneath the surface to its underwater companion on the flipside, where effervescent synths and ecstatic flashes of strings flood the dancefloor.
