Seasoned heads may already be aware of dynArec. The project of one Chris Kalera, dynArec has been a force in the electro underground for more than two decades at this point, releasing numerous records and helming the Vaporwave label to boot. He has marked himself out as a purveyor of top-quality machine-funk during his career, a producer who runs with the spirit of Detroit to craft club traxx of wicked intensity.
TweetIn Chinatown, Andoe presents a series of galloping horses painted in various shades of red. Throughout his career, Andoe has always painted horses, but this is his first exhibition focused on the subject specifically. The image is inspired by Andoe’s admiration for the early twentieth-century Chinese painter Xu Beihong, one of the pioneers of modern Chinese art, who is known for his depiction of horses and birds in India ink, and his large-scale oil paintings portraying epic themes from national history. In New York’s Chinatown, where Andoe lives, there are many restaurants whose signs also feature reproductions of Xu’s horses. To Andoe, this is a familiar, yet foreign, visual language, like so many of the things seen from the side of the road.

TweetThe figure’s design offers a stylized vision of the original comic character humorously, yet quite accurately, described by Scalzo as “a big magical cartoon bear who makes candy boogers come out of his nose, to the delight of children everywhere.” Seemingly inspired by Scalzo’s 2008 painting created for The Blab! Show, the toy plays with Sugar Booger’s proportions to sweet effect.
The Sugar Booger sculpt embraces and exaggerates the round proportions of the original character. The cheerful pose focuses the attention on Sugar Booger’s ball-like body with its arms almost melting into the torso. The now tiny head and stubby legs complete the whimsical design.

The use of vibrant colors throughout the collection is Li-Ning’s way of blurring the lines between the great outdoors and ’90s rave culture. By introducing a collection of oversized and unisex silhouettes, the use of utility pockets with bright color palettes makes the garments accessible for outdoor excursions and on the dance floor. Li-Ning also welcomes a selection of revitalized progressive technical fabrics — such as the wet-dry, reversible outerwear — that keep wearers covered against unpredictable weather.
