MARTHA STEWART X ASSC

Posted on 2022-06-27

In classic ASSC fashion, the brand has opted to keep it simple with Martha Stewart. Two images of her are used throughout the six piece capsule with one showcasing her holding a lobster and the other a close-up look of her gazing into the camera whilst biting an oyster. Collaborative ASSC branding supports the pieces which are set to come in black and white tees and a hoodie.

LEELEE KIMMEL – NIGHT RIDE

Posted on 2022-06-20

Leelee Kimmel’s paintings have always sustained this vibe, her abstract shapes from her very first show proclaiming themselves biomorphs, and avowing kinship with the art of Surrealism of Joan Miró, Yves Tanguy, and Roberto Matta-Echaurren. The most immediately apparent stylistic or formal quality is the impression of rapid, perfervid mark making. Her thick impastos nonetheless appear as if racing, colors violently switching ON/OFF ON/OFF, furious binaries. And this gestural ferment, these leaping and bounding motions indicate a desire for relentless movement within the confines of the picture plane and no less within the viewer, who may come to long for those moments of intersection or erasure in Kimmel’s work when everything goes quiet, stops pullulating: when this foreign-seeming tumult proffers moments of respite, or silent meditation.

FRIENDS + FAMILY

Posted on 2022-06-20

This exhibition features works by artists connected not only through the gallery that exhibits their work, but also through the strong ties built between artists sharing a craft. Many artists or thereafter their estates have been with Mann since the 1980’s. After 40 years this is certainly family!

Within the group of twenty-one artists included in this exhibition, there are husbands and wives, fathers and sons, teachers and students, and professional and personal colleagues. The dynamic duo ringl+pit (Grete Stern and Ellen Auerbach) are a wonderful example of the exhibition’s theme. Having met in 1929 at the famous Bauhaus school, where Maholy-Nagy was a professor, the two created one of the most important Avant Garde photography and design studios in Berlin. When the Nazi’s came to power, Auerbach and Stern fled with their respective partners. Stern immigrated with her husband, Horacio Coppola, to his hometown of Buenos Aires where both artists continued to define themselves as important photographers. Auerbach settled in the United States with her husband, Walter, where they too continued to work as photographers. After their marriage ended, Ellen had a brief relationship and made a collaborative project with the photographer Eliot Porter.

JI ZHOU – SYMBIOSIS

Posted on 2022-06-20

The artist, based on his observation and reflection on the current situation of the contemporary environment, focuses on plants in the works in this exhibition. Every piece was shot and laid out on a specially designed structure, the light from which allows the artist to isolate and inspect each plant, with an emphasis on its pattern. The contrast between the natural plants and the appearance of artificial photography suggests a symbiotic relationship between what is ordinarily provided, and what is altered by humans.

TEMPERATURES RISING – SURRENDER TO THE HEAT

Posted on 2022-06-20

Temperatures Rising is a photographic exhibition that explores the different implications of the word “hot.” Owing to our predisposition to the tropical South Florida weather, we expand on the idea of hotter temperatures through some striking photographs.

Celebrating the summer climate, we dive into what “hot” has meant to different photographers over the years, exploring pictures that present the emotions, physicality, and nature of heat.
