INVINCIBLE X THE NORTH FACE

Posted on 2021-11-01

Dubbed the “METAVERSE EXPLORER,” this four-piece collection harnesses the concept of a futuristic virtual world with pop-cultural themes supplied from animes, novels, and films. Now, more than ever, the idea of a virtual world is not so out of reach as the pandemic has forced people into virtual classrooms, workspaces, exhibitions, and fashion shows. Enlisting the help of Mr. Akio Hasegawa once more, this collection is comprised of the long sleeve shirt, T-shirt, the Nuptse Jacket, and Mountain Light Jacket.

ANZ – DECISIONS (AM INTRO)

Posted on 2021-11-01

Manchester based Anz joins the Ninja Tune family with a kaleidoscopic amalgamation of influences from across dance music’s underground culture following releases on Hessle Audio, Houndstooth, XL Recordings and her own Otras Mitades imprint.

Touching on electro, breakbeat, UKG and jungle throughout – the EP serves as the soundtrack to various stages throughout the night. After the mood is set by the AM Intro, West London vocalist and producer George Riley features on You Could Be with a glossy pop production sitting neatly alongside modern classics like Kelela’s LMK. The A-side closes with the uplifting skittering breakbeats of Real Enough To Feel Good supplying buoyant pre-rave anticipation. Inna Circle opens the B side with well versed b-boy electro samples and a heavier bassline before Last Before Lights distills the energy from headline sets Anz has become famous for across festivals worldwide into a timeless techno, jungle and hardcore hybrid.

EXM – DEPTH LIGHT

Posted on 2021-11-01

On his third full length on Touched Music exm provides an expansive vision of electronica with descent. Robust bass and stony-faced drums kick things off on ‘slew’ while samples of falling water suggest a world beyond synthesis. From crystalline FM on ‘Nimal’ to the scatterbrain percussion and stabs on ‘Thegreathypothetical’ the sound design here is janus-faced, always ready to knock the listener off balance before the record climaxes with the harrowing ‘Core’ where the horror-soundtrack dissonance is all the more chilling for its frenetic 190bpm+ percussion.

WILLIAM KENTRIDGE – FINALLY MEMORY YIELDS

Posted on 2021-11-01

On the ground floor, three new Indian-ink drawings of trees will be exhibited for the first time: Finally Memory Yields, Not Everywhere But Anywhere and An Argument Mired in Nostalgia are among the largest trees ever created by Kentridge and will be displayed in his forthcoming Royal Academy solo exhibition. The trees within his practice were born of two memories and misassociations; a friend describing creating a Tshirt for a companion, heard by William “as a tree search”; and his father representing Nelson Mandela, Albert Luthuli and others in the South African Treason Trial of 1956-1961, which his son misconstrued as “trees and tiles.”

HANA VU – ANYTHING STRIKING

Posted on 2021-11-01

On her Ghostly International debut, 21-year-old Hana Vu unpacks emotive memories over lush guitar-driven bedroom pop. Coming up through LA’s DIY scene and with early Bandcamp cuts released on Luminelle Recordings, Public Storage develops Vu’s sonic palette while always highlighting her distinct contralto voice. With synth textures and an expanded range of instrumentation here, the album has an added sonic depth supporting its always personal lyricism. Each track, and the record as a whole, is envisioned as a space to channel emotion and for the listener to find solace — a kind of storage unit. While bringing in subtle Grunge, New Wave, alt-rock and disco influences the tracks here are never far away from an anthemic pop hook.
