Robust bass and stony-faced drums kick things off on ‘slew’ while samples of falling water suggest a world beyond synthesis. From crystalline FM on ‘Nimal’ to the scatterbrain percussion and stabs on ‘Thegreathypothetical’ the sound design here is janus-faced, always ready to knock the listener off balance before the record climaxes with the harrowing ‘Core’ where the horror-soundtrack dissonance is all the more chilling for its frenetic 190bpm+ percussion.
