MIMOSA ECHARD – NUMBS

Posted on 2021-03-01

I woke up with pop music in my head again.

A certain very influential LA-based stylist is actually just weaponised serotonin or whatever.

The other day, as she appeared through the window, I wondered whether she knew to what extent the soft folds of her back revealed the shape of her spine, disfigured from so many years sloped in the same position.

From this angle, I couldn’t help but wonder whether her lower vertebrae had become damp or spongy, or whether the blood had dammed in her lower back. I wasn’t sure whether this was a form of new life that I couldn’t comprehend, or just another weapon upgrade.

Since then, I’ve let her numb my brain every morning. When I talk to people about it they just say that you need to be careful with how you share and show your holes, and that you should learn to draw the line between hard and soft. But all I want is the complete exteriorisation of the world. I want everything to have a face, and only a face.

I don’t really have an image of the blood in mind. I don’t think it’s photographic. It’s already there.

I mean I’m not even sure we’re talking about images anymore, or just different kinds of chemicals leaking from different kinds of trays.

DJ MUGGS THE BLACK GOAT – NIGRUM MORTEM

Posted on 2021-03-01

Dies Occidendum is a mythical voyage across fog-laden, scorched earth terrain from the original friar of dark hip hop, DJ Muggs the Black Goat. Known and revered as the sonic mastermind behind both Cypress Hill and his own Soul Assassins imprint, here Muggs sheds the MCs and presents his latest dark-soaked productions as an illuminated manuscript of sorts; a fully immersive, instrumental soundtrack to the mysterious Dies Occidendum. No one wields the Excalibur of sonic darkness quite like Muggs. Combining ingredients of psych rock, gypsy folk with modern elements of trap, forged together under layers of his signature sonic grime, Muggs has created yet another blueprint for the utmost sonic menace and macabre. The Renaissance is upon us. Long live King Muggs.

Scotland has a history as a rugged land that fosters hard work, a spirit of independence and a strong connection to the environment. It is often remarked as ‘a hearty place for hearty souls.’ We are lucky enough to represent three photographers who have influenced contemporary photography and are products of a Scottish lineage. In this exhibition, “Three Great Scots” Harry Benson, Albert Watson and David Yarrow have produced three quite distinct acclaimed bodies of work.

ONYX is a completely new photography series created by NYC-based photographer and art director Adrienne Raquel and commissioned by Fotografiska New York. In this alluring and provocative photographic exploration of the famed Club Onyx in Houston, TX, Raquel pushes past the polish and controlled sets of her commercial work, and captures exotic dancers in a more candid and intimate environment. With her signature attention to detail, portrayal of glamour and ability to capture radiant beauty in her subjects, Raquel highlights the nuances of Southern strip club culture while focusing on the relationship dynamics amongst the dancers.
