THE TRUFFLE HUNTERS

Posted on 2021-03-01

Deep in the forests of Piedmont, Italy, a handful of men, seventy or eighty years young, hunt for the rare and expensive white Alba truffle—which to date has resisted all of modern science’s efforts at cultivation. They’re guided by a secret culture and training passed down through generations, as well as by the noses of their cherished and expertly-trained dogs. They live a simpler, slower way of life, in harmony with their loyal animals and their picture-perfect land, seemingly straight out of a fairy tale. They’re untethered to cell phone screens or the Internet, opting instead to make their food and drink by hand and prioritizing in-person connections and community.

LXS ANGELINXS

Posted on 2021-03-01

This exhibition forms a bridge between Los Angeles and Madrid, two cities separated by some 9,400 km or 5,800 miles, representing two very different cultures united by the same language—Spanish is the mother tongue for about half the population of that major North American creative centre. The artistic contribution of the community of Latin-American origin goes back to Mexican muralist movement of the 1920s, and its socio-political approach in turn inspired the Chicano art of the 1970s. The strong radicalism of these movements, both so prolific, has continued to this day as a large group of artists carries on the fight to give visibility to an identity that is almost unknown and even ignored in Spain.

KEIKOTROOPER BY FOOLS PARADISE

Posted on 2021-03-01

Fools Paradise is revisiting one of their early designs with the new Keikotrooper (2021) vinyl art toy. The original figure (2012) featured Keiko wearing a mouse trooper helmet, trooper gloves, boots and little else. The new version features a fifty/fifty design with a fully painted trooper suit on one side and a crystal clear suit on the other, revealing Keiko within. Interestingly, the star this time around is the Trooper suit rather than Keiko herself.

GOOD GOOD GOOD SS21

Posted on 2021-03-01

South African designer Good Good Good drops it’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection, which is dominated by horizontal and vertical stripes, bright colors, and a heavy presence of deadstock or faulty kikoi fabric.

Kikoi fabric is a traditional Kenyan material made of 100-percent cotton, and is typically woven very close which makes for a strong and opaque structure. As a result, the material can be used for pretty much anything, which is exactly the case for Good Good Good’s SS21 offering.

Woven by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified South African mill Mungo, the kikoi finds itself constructing loungey boxy over-shirts, cropped wide-leg trousers, ceramicist’s jackets, leisure shorts, flowy dresses, and accessories such as caps, coming together for full co-ord looks.
