LOUISE BONNET – UNTITLED, 2021

Posted on 2021-02-15

In Untitled, 2021, a new work on paper by Bonnet, a fleshy figure bends forward, exposing its undulating, nude body to the viewer’s gaze. Devoid of facial features, the figure’s agony is only conceivable from its lactating breasts, from which tear-like droplets cascade down and fall onto a barren surface.

Exhibition runs through to February 27th, 2021

MARGARET HOWELL MHL SS21

Posted on 2021-02-15

The collection has been showcased in a mostly-street cast campaign shot by photographer Theo Sion on location at the Margaret Howell offices in London.

SS21 sees MHL continue its core theme of understated and refined pieces, with workwear influences also apparent in the collection. These ideas are referenced through classic chore coats, sweatshirts and cardigans, as well as heavy twill trousers and collarless shirts. Another stand-out is the Miner’s Jacket, while womenswear items expand on these influences with poplin shirting, cotton canvas dresses and jersey T-shirts.

XYLA – COLD FEAT. OSO FEO

Posted on 2021-02-15

Leaving Records introduces San Francisco’s Xyla to the world. The queer bpoc classical musician-turned-producer’s debut full-length Ways presents a fresh, electronic yet organic sound that deftly skates over and around genre limitations into a deeply felt, lush and hyper-futuristic group of songs. Echoes of sweaty rave anthems and classic IDM head trips can be heard strewn throughout Ways’ serpentine compositions, awash in deep ambient swirls and intriguingly twisted samples. Of the album’s title, Xyla states, “Sometimes you think of how things could’ve been. There’s a million different ways things can go.” The eight tracks on Ways each feel like a uniquely personal expression, heavy feelings processed by the producer’s classical music training and extrapolated through exciting self-taught production methods.

MY SALINGER YEAR

Posted on 2021-02-15

New York in the 90s: After leaving graduate school to pursue her dream of becoming a writer, Joanna (Margaret Qualley) gets hired as an assistant to Margaret (Sigourney Weaver), the stoic and old-fashioned literary agent of J. D. Salinger. Fluctuating between poverty and glamour, she spends her days in a plush, wood-panelled office – where dictaphones and typewriters still reign and agents doze off after three-martini lunches – and her nights in a sink-less Brooklyn apartment with her socialist boyfriend. Joanna’s main task is processing Salinger’s voluminous fan mail, but as she reads the heart-wrenching letters from around the world, she becomes reluctant to send the agency’s impersonal standard letter and impulsively begins personalizing the responses. The results are both humorous and moving, as Joanna, while using the great writer’s voice, begins to discover her own.

In theatres and on demand March 5th, 2021.
