JONI STERNBACH- SURFBOARD

Posted on 2020-11-09

Over the last twenty years, Sternbach has worked with large format cameras and early photographic processes to explore how we observe, relate to, and interact with the earth’s oceans. For her current exhibition she digs deeper, concentrating on the vessel designed for ocean voyage, the surfboard. Surfboards, through Sternbach’s eyes are remarkable examples of functional design, that as a group tell a compelling story of a critical American art form. These sculptural totems reflect culture and class, echoing the politics of their time. Through this new body of work, Sternbach deftly draws connections between materials, objects and human experience.

LUGH – RE MUNUS

Posted on 2020-11-09

“There is grief, exultation and relief inherent in belonging to community. Re Munus reflects on the tone of deep gravity with which the re munisation of the de munised is unravelling. The generations which dismantled their social contract, achieved immunity, revoked solidarity.

Severe circumstances foment collectivity, suffering and empathy, interrupting the ethereal dream of social weightlessness. Re Munus sketches sensations and observations during a time of reorientation, rediscovery of lived sensibility on a relational scale. An encounter with sensations which we had said defined us—the tangibility of which we had forgotten, believed to be confined to the past. There is tension between the physical withdrawal and lived intensity which permeates these works.” Lugh

COME AWAY

Posted on 2020-11-09

Eight-year-old Alice (Keira Chansa), her mischievous brother Peter (Jordan A. Nash) and their brilliant older sibling David (Reece Yates) let their imaginations run wild one blissful summer in the English countryside. Encouraged by their parents Jack and Rose (David Oyelowo and Angelina Jolie), the kids’ make-believe tea parties, sword fights and pirate ship adventures come to an abrupt end when tragedy strikes. Peter, eager to prove himself a hero to his grief-stricken and financially-struggling parents, journeys with Alice to London, where they try to sell a treasured heirloom to the sinister pawnshop owner known as C.J. (David Gyasi). Returning home, Alice seeks temporary refuge in a wondrous rabbit hole while Peter permanently escapes reality by entering a magical realm as leader of the “Lost Boys.”

Leif Podhajsky is now well known for his distinctive exhibitions, his album art for musicians such as Tame Impala, Bonobo, Kylie Minogue and Mount Kimbie, as well collaborations with brands such as Nike, Burton and Red Bull.

POLE – FADING

Posted on 2020-11-02

New album Fading – is Pole’s first since 2015’s Wald. As with every new Pole record, it’s part of a continued forward trajectory but it also connects to a pre-existing sonic framework. “Every Pole record connects to recordings that I’ve made before,” Betke says. “In order to stay in this kind of vertical development. The ideas from 1,2,3 up to now are connected. I keep the interesting elements, languages and vocabulary that I designed and add new elements.”
