ADIDAS ORIGINALS BY BAPE AND NEIGHBORHOOD

Posted on 2017-01-23

Adidas Originals joins forces with two heavyweights of Japanese streetwear this month, working with BAPE and NEIGHBORHOOD on a strictly-limited version of the Superstar BOOST silhouette.

True to the classic-meets-contemporary essence of the Superstar BOOST design, the release elevates the model through a number of striking touches, featuring a sock-fit Primeknit construction with premium suede overlays and the shoe’s essential shell-toe. An understated grey base palette is countered with black contrast details including leather serrated 3-stripes, a branded woven heel-pull and embroidered BAPE® and NEIGHBORHOOD branding, placed atop a classic Superstar midsole with concealed BOOST, revealed only by the shoe’s signature window on the medial side.

Releasing February 4th exclusively at selected retailers.

RICHARD LEAROYD

Posted on 2017-01-23

Richard Learoyd’s singular working methods use a camera obscura to create remarkable extra-large-format darkroom photographs, up to 85 inches wide. Both in the studio and in nature, the focal point of the artist’s camera lens captures a nearly hyperreal level of detail, lending the person or landscape a heightened quality of presence. This is contrasted with the shallow depth of field, in which the subject gradually becomes out of focus as it recedes from the camera, as if to escape the visual acuity of the viewer.

In Learoyd’s most recent larger-than-life portraits, his subjects are turned away from the camera, seemingly unknowable. But the artist’s palpable curiosity manifests itself in the intensely rendered details. The photographs have a physicality and tactility that projects a desire for closeness. Subtle use of gesture, color, and pose become signifiers of the subject’s inner life, while the translucent qualities of skin and fabric suggest human vulnerability and fragility.

BRAD WILSON – AFFINITY

Posted on 2017-01-23

Affinity is a series of exquisitely detailed close-up color portraits of captive birds, reptiles, and mammals in a studio environment. Employing a stark black backdrop, these dramatic photographs illuminate subtle idiosyncrasies in each subject as they confront Wilson’s camera. The result is remarkably captivating as Wilson utilizes a refined technique and rapport typically reserved for human sitters.
