ZANZIBAROQUE

Posted on 2009-02-23

Beach luxury reaches new heights. This spring sees the opening of a retreat in Zanzibar called Kilindi. “Zanzibaroque” in style (a term coined by its charismatic owner), it was designed by Neil Roche, one of the most sought-after camp designers in Africa with projects like Kenya’s Shompole on his CV. It’s a lavish creation with 15 sublime pavilion suites (each with not one, but two private pools) and lounge, bar and dining rooms that spill onto the sand for a laid back, barefoot, but utterly indulgent vibe. The food is also a big deal, with Richard Tewnion at the stove – previously sue chef at Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen, vegetables sourced from their own market kitchen, smokers for fish and meats, and their own chickens.
