AARON SISKIND – MID CENTURY MODERN
2020-06-08Mid Century Modern focuses on photographs made by Aaron Siskind during the late 1940s and 1950s while he was interacting with the major figures of mid-twentieth century painting. The exhibition concentrates on a pivotal period when Siskind’s interest in abstraction established a new frame of reference for postwar photography in the larger precincts of art. The installation, a portion of which will reinterpret the groupings and design of Siskind’s Egan Gallery exhibitions, will examine the relationship between Siskind’s approach to the walls of the galleries as surfaces of display and the flat surface of the works of art themselves.
