LUOMO – VOCALCITY 20TH ANNIVERSARY

Posted on 2020-03-30

Vladislav Delay wrongfooted many with the Vocalcity LP that he released in 2000 under the name of Luomo. Previously best-known for creating dub techno, the crisp, lengthy deep house joints that made up this record had as much in common with Kenny Dixon Jr. and Herbert as they did with Basic Channel. However, Vocalcity found Delay excelling in these new surroundings by injecting a little of the atmospheric sensibility of his previous work into this cleaner style – see, for instance, how the perky shuffles of ‘Market’ and ‘Synkro’ are buoyed up by murmuring pads and vocals in the background of both. Shinichi Atobe is but one of the producers whose style owes a debt to the work Delay put in here. Vocalcity has been given a new mastering job for this new pressing.

MINAEMINAE – NACKENWIRBEL

Posted on 2020-03-23

On this seven track album we hear MinaeMinae (alias Bastian Epple) playfully scurry through his dense soundscapes on a tightrope. The sounds lying somewhere on the crossroads of psychedelic trance, exotica, ambient and melodic dance music – veering further off orbit with nontypical rhythms and dystopian percussive patterns.

SQUID – SLUDGE

“SLUDGE is our first release through Warp Records We’ve been playing Sludge for a while so some of you might be familiar with it. It was kind of written about self-isolation before it was a government enforced lifestyle. We don’t really want to say much else about it, other than we hope you like it”.
