OM UNIT – ACID DUB STUDIES II
2022-09-05Bristol bass legend Om Unit returns with the sequel to his beloved self-released detour into acid and dub with Acid Dub Studies II. Much like its antecedent, Dub Studies II makes liberal use of those 303 basslines while its syrupy slow tempos allow the listener to luxuriate in the sound. Running a few notches hotter (and a few steps closer to the dancefloor) than the previous Study, tracks like ‘Strange Brew’ wisely add more rhythmic heft without fully sacrificing the heady vibes at the heart of this project. While Om Unit does cut most of the ambient drift loose, there are still plenty of musical moments more fit for headphones and a deep couch cushion than a cavernous club on this go around.
