2024-09-02The master of musical U-turns Mica Levi is back, and this time on Hyperdub with a single that, fittingly, no one could see coming. ‘slob air’ evades structure with hefty, jumping drums like skipping stones that loop to hypnotic effect, and glittering chords with a timbre in liminal space between strings, brass, winds, and synth, instilling a hazy, gooey, warm feeling in the heart. Above the occasional rumbling bass hum are shivering vocals calling from beyond reach. You could call it hypnagogic pop, post rock, experimental ambient, dream pop, but we think just magnificent will do.
