KORNEL KOVACS – RADIO KOKO
2015-06-29Studio Barnhus co-founder Kornél Kovács lands on Glaswegian institute Numbers. On Radio Koko, the DJ and producer from Stockholm invents an imaginary radio station with the same name, and presents its four tracks as part of its programme. The jacking ‘Lighthouse’ opens with disco-style strings, a gently grooving beat and introvert mallet patterns. ‘Gangsta’ cleverly plays with hip hop beat references: Kovács works his sustained nocturnal piano melodies and syncopated reese-style bass sequence into a steady house rhythm. The special guest of the show, fellow Stockholm producer Marcus Price, makes his contribution on the sunny ‘Malon’. As it turns out however, Kovács saved the true hit for last: the vocal chorus of the 80s flavoured ‘Pantalon’.
