ADIDAS SPEZIAL AUTUMN/WINTER 2020

Posted on 2020-09-14

The second part of the autumn/winter 2020 is a collaborative capsule range designed with New Order. The founder and curator of adidas Spezial, Gary Aspden. is a long time friend and fan of New Order and this collaboration was born out of that relationship.

The collection highlight is an outerwear jacket inspired by Bernard Sumner’s love of sailing. This piece comes in coated woven fabric with a mesh lining and features ‘hidden in plain sight’ tonal reflective branding and stripes. There are distinctive see through hood window panels and a New Order sleeve patch – both details that are synonymous with yachting jackets. The tonal grey of the jacket is lifted by detachable and interchangeable colour-pop pullers to allow the wearer to customise the look of the piece.
New Order’s authentic connection to football culture is acknowledged and celebrated through a football jersey that uses their repeated ‘Tour’ graphic in a tonal engineered jacquard base fabric with elasticated ribbing on the neck and sleeve. The shirt references their music through the Latin wording used in the ‘Mod Trefoil’ badging along with a playful take on modern football kit sponsorship with the use of song title ‘586’ across the chest.

The New Order track jacket comes in a navy cotton and recycled PES blend pique material. the top takes inspiration from classic adidas track jackets (particularly the signature argyle print of Ivan Lendl) and re-appropriates that look and feel with a repeated print of their ‘Tour’ graphic sitting above the hem. The logo tee comes in heather grey cotton and uses the ‘_nwrdSPZL’ graphic underpinned by ‘True Faith’ in Latin. The ‘Tour’ logo appears as a wire frame graphic on the back of the shirt.

The choice of footwear silhouette was an easy decision as Bernard Sumner has worn the Wilsy SPZL as a mainstay for New Order’s live shows over the past couple of years. The challenge was how to bring a New Order aesthetic to the existing shoe without losing the essence of its adidas design origins.

SUPREME/YOHJI YAMAMOTO

Posted on 2020-09-14

Yamamoto is one of the most influential fashion designers living and working today. A master craftsman with a rebellious spirit, Yohji’s transformative impact is felt far beyond the runway. Over nearly 50 years, he has fundamentally changed how people dress in their everyday lives.

In an era otherwise dominated by hyper-feminine, form-fitting glamour, Yohji blazed a new path forward with masterful draping and playful androgyny. His protective, loose and exaggerated shapes – rendered in all-black, and with durable fabrics – disrupted conventional wisdom about the possibilities of modern clothing, and earned him a fiercely dedicated global following. Yohji continues to break barriers between catwalk and street, luxury and sport, tradition and the avant-garde.

Supreme has worked with Yohji Yamamoto on a collection for 2020. The collection features a Leather Work Jacket, Down Jacket, Parka, Wool Suit, Sweater, Shirt, Hooded Sweatshirt, Crewneck, five T-Shirts and a Beanie. The collection features original artwork by Sancheeto, Peter Saville and Yuuka Asakura.

ADIDAS SPEZIAL AUTUMN/WINTER 2020

Posted on 2020-09-10

The footwear releases are led by the HRMNY SPZL – a lesser known release from the original Torsion range that was/is revered by German football fans. Based on the adidas Harmony, it was originally a women’s shoe whose silhouette has been reworked by adidas Spezial into a wider men’s fitting and given a complete overhaul on the colour palette and materials. Next up is the Newrad SPZL – a brand new leisure shoe in light brown nubuck built on the Bermuda tooling and branded with an embossed ‘Mod Trefoil’ patch on the lateral side. To keep the fans of court shoes happy we have the Alderley SPZL – another new adidas Spezial hybrid that takes the foundations of its design from the mesh and foxing of the Rod Laver Vintage but heads into new territory with a distinctive perforated leather toe, ‘U’ mesh insert in the perforated tongue and heel guard. Lastly, Spezial takes the adilette slides and adds its own identity to these adidas icons with the debossed Mod Trefoil relief and Spezial branding.

The apparel sees the return of an adidas Spezial mainstay with the SL Haslingden jacket. The Haslingden is widely regarded as one of Spezial’s most popular jackets ever and this classic 4 pocket jacket walking jacket returns in black. This latest version is constructed in a super lightweight fabric (hence the SL name) with tonal 3 stripe branding.

The second jacket is the ST11 – a newly developed jacket that comes in a bold gold colourway and. takes inspiration from the silhouettes of the Standard Training of the late 70s/early 80s but updates the colour, materials and fit. To support these pieces is a brand carrier Mod Trefoil sweat in a chalk white Terry and a basic white logo carrier tee. There is a tapered navy track pant that uses cotton with recycled PES blend pique material as well as a trace green cargo short in the classic ‘Aldwych’ fit. A multi panel, peaked, logo cap in a warm beige with adjustable fit and three vent holes finishes the look.

FRED PERRY X RAF SIMONS

Posted on 2020-09-07

Raf Simons has teamed up with Fred Perry to design a collection that pays homage to one of London’s most renowned music venues: the 100 Club.

Located in the heart of Oxford Street, the iconic basement club has played host to the likes of The Who, The Kinks, Sex Pistols, The Rolling Stones, The Clash and more.

To celebrate the venue’s rich history, Raf Simons — currently co-creative director of Prada — has reinterpreted classic Fred Perry pieces and infused them with the sensibilities of his eponymous line and decorated them with images from the 100 Club Stories book.
