FRIEZE 2016 – REGENT’S PARK – LONDON

Posted on 2016-10-14

The 14th edition of Frieze London, one of the world’s most important art and culture fairs, proved to be an exciting and strong presentation of both contemporary works and classics. Frieze, founded in 1991 by Amanda Sharp, Matthew Slotover and Tom Gidley, consists of three international art fairs, Frieze London, Frieze Masters and Frieze New York, and four magazines, frieze, frieze d/e, Frieze Masters Magazine and Frieze Week.

Frieze London, made up of Frieze, Frieze Masters and Frieze Sculpture Park, collectively displayed an extensive range of diverse work from the likes of Hüseyin Bahri Alptekin, Jon Rafman and Anish Kapoor, to Portia Munson, James Turrell and Salvador Dali, amongst many, many others.

Young galleries showcased ambitious presentations including Wolfgang Tillman’s photography from the nineties and Darja Bajagić’s dark, gothic girls. A highlight had to be Richard Avedon’s iconic photograph, ‘Nastassja Kinski and the Serpent’, at Frieze Masters. The provocative image, beautifully captures Kinski’s strength and sexuality, as she stares coolly into the camera.

The Sculpture Park also provided an eclectic mix of new work and 20th century pieces, from Henry Krokatsis’, ‘Kabin’ and Lynn Chadwick’s, ‘Stranger III’. Made up of 18 works spread throughout Regent’s Park, the sculptures created an atmosphere that gave new life the park.

Frieze London joined together 160 galleries from 30 countries, offering an inspiring and overwhelming collection of art that had everything to offer.
