NORWOOD SS22

Posted on 2021-08-09

This season’s collection is inspired by the Californian summer, focusing on the emblematic sun-kissed yellow that is often an epitome of West Coast summer. Throughout the lookbook, Norwood plays with its signature green, which symbolizes the brand’s growth and eagerness for new beginnings. Though yellow and green hues are prominent throughout the collection, SS22 highlights various tones using different dye techniques to portray a relaxed vibe. Silhouettes constructed in the Recovery Tie Dye including twill shorts, cargo pants, oversized workwear jackets and mesh basketball shorts continue the playful motif, further emphasizing the collection’s California “cool” inspired design.

RUTH ORKIN – A CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

Posted on 2021-08-09

Ruth’s centennial year will be marked with the release of a monograph published by Hatje Cantz. Her photographs will be widely exhibited in galleries and museums in the US, Canada and Europe. Earlier this year, many of Orkin’s most memorable images were published in The Guardian. And, PDNB will screen the film, Ruth Orkin: Frames of Life, during the span of the exhibition on a date to be announced.

Many will remember Ruth Orkin’s classic, American Girl in Italy. This image became an icon, reproduced all over the world. It was shot in Florence, Italy, when Ruth had just been to Israel for a press junket to photograph newly settled Jewish immigrants in 1951. Afterwards, she decided to take a trip to Italy to do a travel story about a young woman, like herself, traveling in Italy alone. She met an American art student in her Florence hotel that became her ‘model’ for this photo series. This street scene she encountered, taken in two shots, became part of the successful series that Cosmopolitan Magazine picked up, the rest is history. In 2019, with the Me Too movement taking hold, this image gained criticism for its display of male ogling. Certainly, times have changed, but the image is an indelible part of Western culture.

BRAINDEAD X GRAMICCI

Posted on 2021-08-09

After making a trip to Yosemite and founding the infamous ‘Stonemasters’ with his friends in 1977, founder Mike ‘Gramicci’ Graham began prototyping products for his group to use in the hopes of quite literally bringing climbing to new heights. A lifelong climber and outdoorsman, Graham couldn’t find shorts tailor-made for his favourite activity. Not one to quit when hitting a wall, Graham decided to develop his own. His innovative take on the climbing short included a gusseted crotch and integrated nylon belt, and just like that climbing gear was never the same. With climbing being an integral part of Brain Dead’s DNA this collaboration made sense from start. The Brain Dead x Gramicci collection features two t-shirts, a long sleeve, bucket hat, 6-panel hat, and of course both shorts and pants in true Gramicci fashion.

THE DESCHUTES BREWERY X BROOKS

Posted on 2021-08-09

Brooks has partnered with Deschutes Brewery for a hop-filled “Run Hoppy” collection. With a clever play on Brooks’ “Run Happy” tagline, the Pacific Northwest neighbors have crafted a special take on the popular Ghost 14 running shoe plus a set of performance apparel, and Deschutes has even brewed a special beer for the occasion.

Brooks’ Ghost 14 is normally known for its lightweight build and smooth, responsive cushioning, but here what’s even more enthralling than its performance features is how it’s adorned. Its black upper is covered in beer (figuratively, not literally) thanks to an all-over print of full, foamy growlers, mugs and pint glasses. A large golden strike runs through the middle, and white midsoles serve up both cushion and contrast. T-shirts and other apparel add to the beer theme with a custom can graphic that shows spilled beer forming a Brooks logo.

Participating artists are Masaya Chiba, Cobra, Motoyuki Daifu, Koichi Enomoto, Daisuke Fukunaga, Nanami Hori, Kyoko Idetsu, Ulala Imai, Yusuke Saito, Takuro Tamayama, Tadanori Yokoo.

KONDUKU – PARLAMA

Posted on 2021-08-02

Konduku’s rhythmically curious strain of techno deals in delicate, interwoven patterns and tangible atmospheres. He arrives on Spazio Disponibile with four new pieces which further mark out his non-standard approach. From the fluttering bell tones of Parlama to the stepped, transcendental murmur of Mantar Kaya and Yukarı’s high-definition chime mantra, the sound of Konduku is crystal-clear, and yet its overall effect unfurls around you like smoke – all the better for your ears to breathe it in.
