LORD OF THE ISLES – GLISK SCIENCE EP

Posted on 2021-01-04

Scottish producer Neil McDonald records a distinctive set of dancefloor gear and ambient drifters for the label offshoot of Tim Sweeney’s much-loved radio show. The club tracks on the A-side were first created for an ADE performance and Dekmantel podcast. They are from the direct end of McDonald’s armoury, but still ooze grace and improvisational ingenuity. The title track opens the B-side with a stunning waterfall of synth notes, teeing up another, more serene ambient piece in ‘Sisters’. Both were written for a special performance of Lord Of The Isles-style, concert hall sophistication at the Sydney Opera House.

TONY VACCARO AT 98

Posted on 2021-01-04

At the age of 21, Tony was drafted into WWII and for the next 272 days he photographed his personal witness to the brutality of war. Tony’s transition from war and its aftermath was a deliberate one. As an antidote to man’s inhumanity, Tony focused his lens on those who gave of themselves: artists, writers, movie stars, and the beauty of fashion

By focusing on the splendor of life Tony replaced the images of horror imbedded in his eyes. This exhibition illustrates his will to live and to advance the power of beauty in this life. Tony is one of the few people alive who can claim to have survived the Battle of Normandy and COVID-19. On December 20, Tony Vaccaro celebrates his 98th birthday, an inspiration to us all.

ANDY GARVEY – MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

Posted on 2021-01-04

“Opening the A side “CPU Limit 99” is full of jungley skittish breaks, acid bass and off kilter rhythms. By the time we hear the voice of Agent Smith creeping out in the first break we could be forgiven for casting our minds back to Metalheadz circa 2002. Next up, “Aoe_Rushin” is the pick of the bunch for us and continues The Matrix theme, albeit less explicitly, via a full on bonkers trip of searing acid, razor sharp drums and smashed up vocals.

On the flip Adam Pits switches up “Aoe_Rushin” into a pacey 4×4 club joint utilising some expansive arrangement and lovely speed garage-esque bass. Closing things out, title track “Set Phasers to Stun” winds things back and rounds up with a deep and meditative cut of melodic electro.”
