THEO PARRISH – WUDDAJI

Posted on 2020-11-16

Storied legend of the electronic underground Theo Parrish returns with another disc of genre mastery. A new Theo Parrish LP is an exciting prospect in and of itself, and Wuddaji sees the DJ and producer push the envelope further into electronic abstraction. A viciously percussive stomper comes across in ‘All Your Boys Are Biters’, while Parrish’s admiration of Miles Davis shines through the deconstructed synth and organ hiccups of ‘Hambone Capuccino’.

BEAU WANZER – KITCHEN CLOCK

Posted on 2020-11-16

No nonsense, analog crunchers from L.I.E.S affiliate Beau Wanzer on Delroy Edwards’ L.A. Club Resource label. Kitchen Clock’s A-side sounds Wanzer’s drum machines ran at full heat and spat out the most incendiary grooves possible. ‘A Stupid Drunk Bro’ brings a hiphop vibe and street-level guts to its techno frame. ‘Wilmas Crate’ is Wanzer at his most delicate, evoking dimly lit, Chicago alleys. Don’t get comfortable, B2 ‘Kitchen Clock’ ramps up the muscle again and turns up the temperature.

Adidas Originals and Recouture present two Campus 80s models, one in a classic combination of black-and-white and another in a less-than practical “Beige” colorway. The black-and-white pair best shows the new details that have been implemented, such as the off white hue that details the patch-like suede Three Stripes on the medial and the extended black suede on the lateral side panel.

HUGO BREHME’S MEXICO

Posted on 2020-11-16

This photographic exhibition will include photographs and postcards focused on iconic Mexican subjects including scenic landscapes, colonial architecture, and the everyday life of indigenous peoples. Complementing the work of Hugo Brehme, we will also have a small selection of work by Manuel Alvarez Bravo, a prominent Modern Mexican photographer heavily influenced by Brehme, as well as Mexican photographer Manuel Carrillo who resonated his predecessor in the beauty and authenticity of photographing his culture in the mid to later part of the 20th Century.

Hugo Brehme was born in Eisenach, Germany in 1882. In his twenties, he developed an artistic eye trained by his photographic studies in Erfert, Germany which he completed in 1902. He then opened his own studio and made many expeditions to Africa with his photographic equipment. After making an expedition to Mexico in 1906, he arrived again in 1908 with his newly wedded wife, bringing along his photographic equipment with him.

GABBY ROSENBERG – ICONS

Posted on 2020-11-09

Icons, is a solo exhibition by Los Angeles-based Gabby Rosenberg that consists of colorful, abstracted, figurative paintings. Created in a corner of her living room during a statewide stay-at-home order, Rosenberg’s new works depict figures in action that are confined underneath an archway. They are comprised of a mix of colorful rounded forms with their limbs, torsos and heads outlined with a contrasting band of color. Borne of imagination, introspection and frustration, the paintings obliquely convey aspects of our troubled time. However, they also convey Rosenberg’s delight in painting. In that way, her spirited effort is the essence of the work.

Exhibition runs through to November 14th, 2020
