PORRIDGE RADIO WITH LALA LALA – GOOD FOR YOU

Posted on 2020-08-10

Made in lockdown, ‘Good For You’ carries with it a frustration that feels very fitting for the mood of living in self-isolation. Dana says of the new track, “this song came out of spending a lot of time focusing a lot on understanding what I feel instead of allowing it to control me. I’ve recently been trying to acknowledge emotions without allowing them to consume me completely”

REVERBERATION

Posted on 2020-08-10

Since ancient times, through the Renaissance and up to the present day, artists have recontextualized the ideas, images and styles of their predecessors. In this online exhibition Reverberation, the work of Sharon Core, Ori Gersht, Jitka Hanzlová and Hellen Van Meene raises questions about influence, appropriation, originality and authorship. Utilizing a variety of approaches, each artist draws upon the work of recognized painters to produce photographs that destabilize the distinction between painting and photography and blur the boundary between past and present. All four artists bring the present into contact with the past to create what Walter Benjamin described as “dialectical images”, in which the relationship of past to present is not one of linear time, but of constant negotiation.

VANESSA MARSH – THE SUN BENEATH THE SKY

Posted on 2020-08-10

Marsh’s minimal, graphic images feature empyrean, enigmatic, and often surreal landscapes that speak to forms of power—natural, cosmological, and man-made—as well to the sublime and its attendant enchantments and contradictions. While her mixed-media process is based in photographic techniques, Marsh does not work with a camera. She instead layers cut-paper silhouettes on top of photosensitive paper, making multiple exposures that she further manipulates through dodging and burning techniques.

REBECCA BRODSKIS – TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY

Posted on 2020-08-10

Tomorrow Is Another Day is a solo exhibition by Paris-based Rebecca Brodskis that features nine new highly pared down portrait paintings. According to Brodskis, all of her characters are in an “in between” state, one of suspended animation, frozen still in the precise instant before the storm hits. The figures do not come out of one particular time period. They could be from the 1860s, the 1920s or from now. They are timeless and placeless and convey an overriding anxiety that reflects a highly uncertain future.
