Centralizing stylized imagery around the heads of Roots co-founders Black Thought and Questlove. These include a nod to Roots Picnic 2020 co-host Michelle Obama’s “When We All Vote” initiative, placed above a long quote from the album liner of Funkadelic’s immortal Maggot Brain. Designed by noted brand Brownstone, this collection is limited and will only be available for one week (June 27th – July 5th).

The adidas ZX 10000 LA is the latest collaborative model created between London-based retailer Offspring adidas, which has been inspired by the great city of Los Angeles. The uppers of the sneakers take on a neat panelled design that’s crafted from a variety of supple suedes, with the pink, brown and blue colorway inspired by the vasy hills of Hollywood. Three stripe branding runs down each side, while additional logos are present at both the tongue and heel. Offspring branding comes in the form of graphic-printed laces and a special-edition dual-branded lace lock.

Spectral Frequency’s title-track is a distillation of the things listeners have come to love about the Special Request project. The track begins with mutant techno, spacey jungle breaks which are warped into all kinds of beguiling shapes at the hands of project mastermind Paul Woolford. However, with barely any warning ‘Spectral Frequency’ drops mightily at around ninety seconds in – the sub-booms that enter here are strong enough to knock you off your feet. It is both thrilling and incredibly assertive, Woolford repeats the trick twice more across the track while also adding some space-age synth bleeps in the final stretch. ‘Spectral Frequency’ is hardcore revivalism done right. Sister-number ‘Inverse Frequency’ follows, and this is a tune which very much does what it says on the tin – it’s effectively the oblique of ‘Spectral Frequency’, with Woolford forgoing beat drops and instead doubling-down on those more industrial drum loops and jaw clenching builds.
