ROGER EBERHARD – HUMAN TERRITORIALITY

Posted on 2020-03-09

The series Human Territoriality by Swiss photographer Roger Eberhard explores former borders, across the globe and throughout human history. Some have slowly moved over time, due to natural or human landscape transformations, others have vanished with the fall of empires and shifts of political and religious powers.

Borders act as tools of separation, dividing here and there. Meanwhile they define what lies within the boundaries, instilling a claim to permanence and protection.

In a time of mass migration, border walls and spreading nationalism, Eberhard captures the inherent instability and transience of human demarcations.

NIKKOLOS MOHAMMED LADY HOOPS BOX SET

Posted on 2020-03-09

Inspired by the layering process that occurs during printmaking, Mohammed chose risography, a stencil duplicator, for his first box set. The riso prints one color at a time, creating vibrant, bright colors in a process similar to photocopying. “Lady Hoops Box Set” includes six black and white originals, along with six colored images.

Each work depicts American professional basketball coach and former Los Angeles Lakers player Nick Van Exel surrounded by decór of the Boston Garden’s floor, paying homage to Van Exel’s winning shot against the Boston Celtics at the historic arena in 1995.

Each work comes numbered, signed and dated by the artist in a hand-screen printed 16 inch by 20-inch box. Launching in an edition of 10

ALLEN JONES

Posted on 2020-03-09

Allen Jones is part of an extraordinary generation of artists from North America and across Western Europe born in the 1930s who, children during the horrors of World War II, were art students in the shift from the austerity of the recovering fifties into a decade of the prosperous swinging sixties with its celebration of a newfound sense of consumerism and sexual liberation. There had not been a comparable decade in Europe since the twenties. In the world of painting, artists who typified this generation included, in the States, James Rosenquist and Tom Wesselmann, Martial Raysse in France, Michelangelo Pistoletto in Italy, and Konrad Klapheck in Western Germany. In Britain there was Allen Jones. All of these artists went on to have distinguished and inventive careers over several decades until the present.
